Default So I went out and picked up...

My wife challenged me to a shooting competition. I was cleaning our firearms the other day, She came into the den and picked up her ruger MKII pistol, did the required safety checks and said, Id love to see you get one of these so we could compete against each other". That was my license to buy! I went down to P and D then bought a ruger MkIII 22/45 competition model... just waiting for an after market mag disconnect bushing. Look out Alice,, you just opened up that can o' worms....

Their reputation for being difficult to clean has kept me away but the new design of the Mark IV has peaked my interest. I plan on waiting for the 22/45 version though. Anyway, it sounds like a good deal if your wife is interested in joining you.

That's great she is shooting with you!!

Cleaning the MK II isn't really that bad but I still wouldn't mind the new MK IV. Whichever model it is, you cannot go wrong with the Ruger .22 pistols!

Haven't had the time to get out with her, but when we do, I intend on fouling a few groups. There are "added benefits" to letting her win.

She loves her MkII and I'm really chomping at the bit to test out this MkIII 22/45. I just received a mag disconnect in the mail from Sam Lam yesterday and spent about an hour watching a detailed strip and assemble on U tube. I installed that bushing with little issues. The pistol functions as it should. I think Saturday is a phoenix range day....for both of us.

Huntsman, as soon as I get to fire this baby, I'll give you a full range report, but I expect nothing but good from this pistol. I've been haunting
rimfirecentral.com and reading about other shooters in the US who love the pistol.

For what it's worth guys, My wife isn't just interested in joining me, she is the driving force behind all the guns in our place. She already owns two pistols and her rifle. No, I don't need to drag her out shooting, in fact, it's mutual. I struck gold when I found her.

I got this one at P and D for 415.00. I guess the prices would vary depending where you go.

Range report.. We must have fired at least 50 to 70 rounds through our pistols. Not one stoppage or misfeed out of my 22/45. Alice had two fail to fire out of her Ruger MkII. Mine is a heavy barrel model and shot flawlessly. Our grouping isn't all that great and that's due to my lack of practice, both of us need to shoot lots more .
I ordered a Magazine disconnect bushing from Sam Lam in Ontario, installed that bushing and had no issues at all. This allows me to drop the hammer on an empty chamber without a magazine inserted into the pistol grip. I also mounted a Picatinny rail on top of the action and I'm waiting for a red dot site to arrive. I was a bit dubious of the kydex lower, but there are no issues with a plastic lower so far as I can tell. I'm pretty happy with my new purchase. Huntsman, the price for the same pistol at wholesale is much more, listed at 479.00 so, shop around, but I think P and D is your best bet.

I got very lucky finding Alice. She had never shot anything before we first met. On our third or fourth date, I introduced her to my MkII pistol. It was love at first sight. She took her non restricted and restricted course through a retired colonel who teaches and the rest is history. She now owns a 9mm, a 22 pistol and her savage M11 .223...
