Default Golden Flies

Well haven't been out much at all this season. but august long we have decided to finally go for golden trout on Barnaby ridge. Last of the alberta game species to get! Also have a gorgeous new blue halo 3wt ive been dieing to use!

So far I think we have figured pretty much everything out just matter of getting there and getting our out of shape selves up to the lakes! I have a pretty good selection of flies that should be good but does anyone have some suggestions of some must have flies or colors up in the alpine lakes for this time of year?

Hopefully get the goldens first day and not have to go back up and go play on the crow or oldman next few days!

Will update after thanks everyone!

I haven't done barnaby but I've done several trips to Rainy Ridge and black or claret micro leeches work well, little beadhead nymphs ~ size 16 under an indicator work like a hairs ear or evil weevil type thing, chironomids (blood worm) work well ~size 16-18... As far as dry flies I've caught them on caddis in the mornings and evenings, as well as small ~size 18 parachute style emerger patters... Food is pretty scarce up in those lakes and they don't get fished to a whole lot relative to some other places, so I've never found them to be too picky when conditions are right!

good luck.

No problem... Castle Ski resort will be the closest place for monitored weather reports. Beaver mines is the closest town.
