Tough to beat an older Sako AV if you are a lefty....best "current" production rifles is a tough one...I wouldn't buy a new Remington but I would buy an old one. If I had the money to spend and I was only buying one rifle for along time I would buy a Blaser, Heym or a Sauer. Cooper or Weatherby are other options depending on your cartridge choice.

I would have to say a +1 for the Ruger #1. Single shot. Shoot either shoulder. Proven track record for accuracy and quality. Price would be the only down side. Unless you have a healthy "gun fund".

compared to the guns somebody else on here was talking about, they are somewhat "affordable", I know you're not going to pick one up at Canadian Tire for $400.00 , but the OP asked a simple question........should also mention., I was close to 50, before I could afford my first #1, wanted one for years, but kids, their school etc. got in between....in the end, it worked out great for all involved....

True. I just commented on the price because guns over $1000 are out of the budget of some looking for a good production rifle. I needed to find a down side I guess. I had in the back of my mind a Weatherby Vanguard when I made the post. A production rifle that is guaranteed to shoot M.O.A out of the box for under $600. But, I do hope some day to own a #1...as soon as I save enough pennies.

MOA in my opinion is way over rated out of the box, I would rather work up a load to suit my particular gun......and yah, spending over 1k for a gun takes a little time to get to that point, but......they are nice....when you're young it's nice to dream about them...then you buy 1...and.....the beat goes on...lol!!!

The new Mel Forbes rifle!! In a .280 then send it to a gun smith to AI it , and you got yourself a gun built by one of the best in North America !! Only difference between the Mel Forbes production rifle and NULA rifles is the barrel !

If your looking at the higher price range, why not just build yourself a custom?
pick out all your parts, then pick the right builder put it together...
having a rifle thats built for you, might feel a little nicer to sholder

If I were going to spend a thousand dollars on a factory rifle I planned to hunt with, I'd go with a TC Icon Weathershield that has a factory group under 1/2". Why, three lug bolt, aluminum bedding block, integrated recoil lugs, integrated scope rail, detachable magazine, adjustable trigger, lifetime warranty ... It will likely shoot consitantly under 1MOA. If I want to take the first step to building a custom, all it really needs is the barrel.
If I were spending two thousand, I'd look at a Sako...

That right there says a bunch - all you have to do now is choose the cartridge, Gramps!

Whatever you choose Cory, be sure to let it spend it's first 2-3 months with me. Then one day when you call to find out if I've got it in my safe, I can innocently reply.....duhhh, what?

My vote would be for the Ruger #1 as well.
Specifically, Ruger #1-H in 375 H&H, but that's just because I like the profile and the cartridge...

Production high end rifle? Cooper, Hill Country rifles, McMillan , or Nosler custom. Would be at the top of my list if I ever had the cash. Maybe just by a Lazzeroni and be done hahaha
