Default Reloading for 6mm

I have a 6mm Remington the limited edition they made in 2011. I think it has the 9 1/8 twist. I was wanting to make some coyote loads for it. Just looking for some info on where to start with powders, bullet size I was thinking something in the 60 grain. Any other tips to get it accurate.

Do you want to be able to sell the hides. If you do, that will dictate the bullet choice to a large extent. If not, anything from 55 grains to 100 will work fine. I am a big fan of 4895 for the lighter bullets and 4831 and 4350 for 85 and above. I have always been a fan of using the slowest powders that produce top velocity. I use CCI 250 primers in Remington brass. My buddy used a 244, original name for the 6MM, for many years shooting coyotes out to the half mile line. It was a semi auto Remington and it was amazingly accurate. He actually wore the barrel out of it.

Two options, try rapid expanding bullets that don't pass through like the Speer TNT, Barnes Varmint grenade, Hornady Vmax or get controlled expansion bullets like the Barnes TSX and try to leave as small an exit hole as possible. A lot will depend on if your rifle likes light bullets.

I have had good luck with the Sierra MatchKing HPBT bullet. Very little damage.

What weight?
Do those pencil through and leave small entry and exit holes?

Sorry I thought I included that. 70gr Most pencil through, had some expand and leave a quarter size hole. Sample size is about a dozen dogs. Never lost a dog or a pelt. Oddly enough my bro uses the same bullet (69gr.) in his .223 and has had a few blow up when they hit bone. So far the .243's have been good though.

In the past I have found my 6mm to be pretty rough on hides unless using a stout hunting bullet. I always had small exit holes with Nosler Partition 100's. Lighter bullets gave variable results, sometimes small holes and sometimes total destruction of the off side.

If I was shooting dogs for pelts today I would use 80 gr TTSX and IMR 4350.
60 gr bullets can be started fast, but will have low BC and shed velocity quickly.

Great choice of cartridge, btw.

I have only shot 95 Gr hornady through it. I have read some 6 mm don’t like the lighter bullets.

I shot some factory Remington and federals through it when I first bought it but it sprayed them everywhere. So far the hornady has been working okay.

The .244 Rem had a 1-12 " twist envisioned as a varmint cartridge and wouldn't stabilize the longer 100gr deer bullets. The competitor the .243 Winchester had a 1-10 " ROT and could do both. So Remington re-introduced the .244 as the 6mm Remington with a 1-9" twist but it never really gained the ground it lost.

I guess I’ll have to try a few different grains and brands to see what it likes.

Not a 6mm but 140 gr. Berger VLD hunting bullets out of my .260 work very well. So I would consider the Berger line of bullets also.. The 6mm 105gr. Target bullet has great BC and would work well I would think.
Also just a thought, but Lapua bullets right now are cheaper then the North American made bullets.

I have the exact same 6 mm Remington, very nice rifle.
I run 65 GE v-max for varmint,
75 gr Serria HP and 90 gr eldx my most accurate,
And my rifles shoots the 85 partion, 90 gr eldx, 90 ballistic tip, 95 gr BT, Partion, and 100 gr hornardy all nicely sub 1" x5 shots with Reloader 26, at 100m.
R26 will give an extra 100-150 fps of H4350, 4381 I was using,
I would be shooting sumthing like a barns 85,95 gr for coyotes, the few I have shot with the v-max, and 90 eldx, were very torn up.
Only bullet I can not get good groups with is the 90 gr accubond, was a bit disappointed about that,
