Default Southern Alberta Ice Status for Dec 27

Looking to go ice fishing near Calgary tomorrow, Dec 27, preferring trout. Can anyone confirm that there is safe ice out there? Possible candidates are Chain Lakes or Lake Newell.

If you're looking for trout, Chain is the better spot...and should have safe walkable ice by now as PCR does which is only about a half an hour away...don't forget the velveeta.

yup velvetta cheese is a good all purpose bait for stocked trout pond. also the dew/earth worms work good too but the suckers also love the worms but would keep ya entertained.

Only if it's really built up in the last week, we fished just nw of the bridge and it was no more than 5 inches in most spots....We were told it was thicker by the docks though

lots of ice in the Newell area. first day this season Ive driven on the ice, not at Newell but 40 minutes south of it. at least 20 inches on that lake. you might catch the odd trout in Newell, but dont go there targetting them, you will be dissapointed. and the pike will steal all of your equipment
