Default Coyote Tail Ripped Off

So I ripped a tail off a coyote pretty close to the base of it while skinning one today. It's a nice big adult male with a real nice pelt too.....Dang!

I'm going to split the tail and sew it on because I just hate to send it to auction that way. Has anyone ever done it and does anyone think that it'll make any difference? I know that it'll grade damaged but I figure that the tail has to be worth something if it's re-attached to the pelt.

Dave,
Get him tanned, sell him as a wall hanger. You should make at least $50 over tanning, and won't loose out on a damaged grade.

A missing tail will have very little effect, if any at all, on the grade and value of the pelt for the fur industry. Except for taxidermist species the graders do not have time to grade ears, tails or feet. just don't send in all your pelts with the tails missing. The general appearance gives some indication of good pelt handling to the grader.

What tomcat said the only way it will grade damaged is if there is damage on the back or belly, usually teach you that kind of stuff in a trapping course.

X3...I was always told if a coyote only had half a tail, to cut the rest off, as it didn't count as damage.

Yeah, yeah.....LOL! Now I know.

As my penance for screwing up I split the tail and sewed it back on. It might not make a difference but it just looks better to me.
