Default Bow river winter fun

Looking to head down to the bow this weekend for some fishing. This will be my first time on the bow in the winter. I realize i need to extremely cautious about ice shelves and/or floating ice. I was thinking starting at fish creek. Not sure if I should go downstream or up from there? Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

I haven't been down to look at the river, however, with the sudden rise in temperature there is a lot of snowmelt running into the river right now via the storm sewers and overland runoff. The river might be fairly brown at the moment. Maybe someone else knows better than I do. Might want to call a fly shop in Calgary and ask about the conditions before you drive.

Downtown section near the elbow is starting to clear but there's loads of ice still around.

When the water is muddy put away the fly rod unfortunately the only thing I have found that works is some panther martin spinners on an ultra light spinning set-up. I usually carry both on me in the winter. Muddy water means warmer water and slightly more active fish.
