Default Baja California Fly Fishing

Hey folks, I'll be heading down there in a couple weeks, to San Diego then Los Cabos. Thinking of bringing the 8 wt to try some tropical fly fishing. Any tips, recommendations or flies for fishing the region, would be appreciated. I have tried saltwater fly fishing in the Pacific Northwest but never tried yet in the tropics. Hope to have to great Christmas down there!

When I fish d Loretto I tied a pile of Deceivers on 2/0 hooks
My buddy bought a mess of Deceivers as well from Captain Billy in Florida IIRC
I also tied a bunch of really long steamers for bouncing across the tops of the waves for Dorado

Be sure to bring tropical lines or you will have issues due to the warm temps with your regular line...

Gummies in sardine type colours!

Baja is Suppose to have world record Bass fishing also. I think that would be fantastic on a fly rod.

Have a great Christmas down there

I 2nd the gummy minnows. You can buy them from fish tales but use some super glue as they like to slide down the shaft of the hook after a few casts.
Watch a few salt water fly fishing videos and get the retrieve and set down.
If you have trouble casting in the wind or with heavy hooks best and easiest thing to do is shorten the leader. 24" to 30" leader will work well. Do not tie your knot to the eyelet of the hook tight so the hook swims more naturally.
