For you RV'ers...a handy tip
So you know how your RV storage compartments all have the same universal cam lock? That's right everyone in that campsite has the same universal CH751 key as yours and can get to your stuff inside the "locked' storage compartments.
Replace them with these bad boys!!! http://www.padlockoutlet.com/390-Ser...-Cam-Lock.html
Set your own combo. Never have to worry about losing keys!! Go one step further and hide a set of your regular door lock keys inside one of those storage areas and Voila!!! Never get locked out again. Or realize after you've driven down to the rv storage place, you forgot the rv keys at home...or lost them on a hike, etc etc. Ingenious!!!

Good idea, but what if you are driving and it is raining, all dirt, silt, road grime gets in the locks, and you can't wash it out then the lock will seize up, then I have to break into that compartment.

They can't be any cheaper than the keyed one's. They don't work half the time either.

What's that got to do with the OP? You have the same problem no matter WHAT type of cam lock is on your storage door.

Those three digit locks take all of 10 mins to get the combo. They should make all of them at least 4 digits. I like combos with letters, 26 differant letters per tumbler rather than 10 in the number system.

It would take all of 5 secs ( no matter what lock ) if you really wanted to get into an RV compartment.

Change the locks!
I had them change out those locks with ones keyed differently, before I towed it home from the dealership (they gave them to me for free ).
And yes, taping over the keyhole of the lock works great for keeping the *&^%$# out, while traveling and in storage.
And yes, no matter what kind of lock, they're very easy to break into.

^ This.
But at least not having your tools, hitch gear etc locked in a compartment that everyone has a key to is better than nothing.
I thought it was a great tip. Wasn't suggesting a way to turn your RV into fort Knox. Trust this forum to look for every conceivable scenario to shoot down a simple good suggestion.

Yes it is a good tip; one I didn’t think of was the tape, so I value what you have posted.
Welcome back.

Good Idea Dave
I always have trouble with my locks bieng sticky even when sprayed up with wd-40. Not sure if combo would be better but I like the thought of no one else having the same key.
Thanks for the tip.

??
I'm on your side dude.
I said it was a good idea. Personally I don't think there's a lot of bad guys that look to break in and steal lawn chairs, weiner sticks and ground mats.
I leave my hitch sitting on the ground under my trailer

Yeah Sorry, I didn't express that well.

"Clgy_Dave2.0" = "Calgary Dave" ??? ... I thought that too at first, but now I'm not so sure.
This is something for the Mods to sort out.

Lol. I thought it was obvious. My old account was deactivated 14 months ago. I scrambled both the password and reg'd email, so I can't even reset my password. There were a few users I needed to get a hold of and the only way I could was to re register. I see not much has changed though.
