Default An old book worthy of reading on trapping in western Canada in the late 1800's.

I am just reading this book online and thought there may be others that would enjoy the book too. A very famous person in early Alberta/BC history wrote it..

Henry John Moberly ( 1835-1931) , who has a few places named after himself. He started with the fur trade in the 1850's and came west.

The books name: When Fur Was King. written in 1926.

Very few hard copies of the book exists. Alberta library system has one copy (that I am aware of) that they will not lend out. Part of their Canadiana collection. You can only read it with an appointment at the library.

I hope a few AOsmen enjoy the read during the upcoming cold winter nights.

To flip the pages of the book just click on the blue arrows at the bottom of the page. No need to log in to the site to read the book.

That is a wonderful book Red Bullets.

I have travelled through most of the area described and always wondered how the Moberly name ended up in Field B.C. East Jasper north to Grande Cache, and into the headwaters of the Peace River.

If you come across any other similar books please post a message on the board.

Thank you
