Which Rifles To Keep

Rainy day (again) and pondering which BG rifles to keep / downsize. I hunt deer and the odd moose / elk. Rifles on deck are: (all 5 shot groups)

243 win hs precision - slings all things sub moa with 55gr-85gr into .5 or less

308 win Sako l579 - around 1.moa give or take 165gr / 180gr

6.5 x 55 rebarreled rem 700 classic shoots 125gr-160gr under 1 moa

7mm rem mag in hs precision ... 139gr - 175gr .5ish groups

9.3 x 62 old mauser with 20" barrel that is 1.5" groups... homemade custom that is worth nothing but is minute of moose with 250gr - 320gr

I am thinking the 7mm as a 1 gun and done or the 6.5x55 and the 9.3 as a 1-2 combo...idk

Your Thoughts pls

.243 and 7mm gets my vote. But that 6.5x55 would be hard to let go...

Honestly, with that few guns I see no need to downsize at all. I can make a perfectly good argument to own each one of those.

never one gun....ya need a minimum 2....243 and 7....243 will do all game but if in big bear country the 7 will take care of a moose/elk and if required a big bear very effectively.....

I say .243 and 7 rem mag. Ammo is readily available everywhere, that’s what I’d do.

Agree,....I'd keep the 7 Rem Mag. It's a highly under rated all arounder while not being overkill for deer.

If you're doing it just to make some money I would keep the 7 mm and the 308 otherwise why sell if you don't need the money just keep them all

If you are looking at selling the .243, please let me know. My son is 12 and is planning on hunting this fall and we just started to look for a rifle. Im thinking ..243, .260 or the likes.
He is a smaller kid and don't want a rifle with much kick to start bad flinching habits.

Hard one for me as I was up around 31 rifles and loading for 17
Calibers, I would think the 7mm or even the 308 have loaded both for guys that took moose, no issues,
I have used 25/06, 308 and 300 win mag for deer, 300 win mag for black bear and a 375 for moose and black bear, I have now acquired another 351 win sl and 401 win sl and a 7/08 which is a new caliber for me, I will find it hard to figure out which I will carry this year.

7-08......what a beauty sleeper of a cartridge....140gr pill...Barnes or similar type bullet and things just fall over if you do your part.....

Keep whichever one is your fav, then put all the others up for sale or trade and enjoy some new ones. Unless someone special gave you the gun, they are all just wood, metal, and plastic. They make new ones everyday. Variety is the spice of life.

I suggest a three gun battery.

243 - everyone needs a good coyote rifle. (It can be so much more with good bullets)

7RM - good all around - long distance.

9.3x62 - your moose/bear thumper.

This is a dream lineup if you ask me.

If you keep one, keep the 7. If you keep two, keep the .243 and the .308.

Dean2 and Prairiewolf touched a cord. It took a long while and many incarnations(guns & calibers) to settle on these shooters which has me leaning towards keeping things status quo. Lots of shooting and reloading fun to be had still ... thank you everyone

Smart Choice. It is never hard to sell guns, always tough to find ones you REALLY like. If I ever got down to 5 guns it means I have been robbed or died.

So why get rid of any of them? They all have a purpose and deserve a walk in the woods or at least some range time.

I don't think you should sell any, but if I had to keep just two I'm in agreement on the 7mmRM and the .243. You can get a lot done with those two, from coyote to bear, deer, moose, elk, and sasquatch.

I've had a bunch of different ones over the years, currently down to a .22-250 win M70, and 3 model 700s in 7mm08, 7mmRM, and .300WM. If I had to keep just one it would be a toss between the 7mm08 and the 7mmRM.

Since you asked the 6.5 and 9.3 speak to me as a great 2 gun line up. I’d keep them all but it’s not really complete without a .303 !!

I'd agree, pick one or two of your favorites and maybe, if you have a gap, add a new one.

The 243 and 7mm sound like they would have you covered for everything really. And they are both shooters.

You know if you sell some of those, you'll just end up calling me and wanting to buy a Colt revolver or two again Dalton...it's like that itch down on the lower part of your shoulder blade you just can't ever reach. I hate that itch.....
