Default Battery World - Heads Up

This used to be far and away the best place to buy batteries. Staff were knowledgeable, they carried stuff no one else had and they were generally 30 to 50% cheaper. The first part is still true but their pricing has really come out of wack. Last couple of times in there they are 100% more than the competition. Rechargeable phone battery $27, bought 2 for $7. CR2 Duracell, $13.49, Lowes 2 for $14.99 Duracell, Walmart $5.59 Duracell, $5.09 Energizer. To be fair Canadian Tire was $27 for one and staples was $32 for two..

A guy gets into the habit of shopping at certain places and believing the value proposition remains the same. Every once in a while it really pays to validate those assumptions and it sure is worth a guys time to shop around on prices.

Anyone else noticing these kinds of changes where they shop?

Default Battery world

That seems strange the one in GP is great,I go there lots and can always find that stuff that nobody else carries and priced fairly .Each one is individually owned , so it might be just that location .

This one was great before too. Surprised by how much it has changed and yet the same people working there.

Re Amazon - you guys are spot on, always some good deals but there are also a LOT of terrible deals. Check real close before buying and if what you get is over priced or not near as good as you expected, return them. Only way to get Amazon to keep paying attention is to religiously return crap that isn't what you expected.

Amazon: Lightning Deal on a 4 pack of erasers. Only $4.00 marked down from $7.00.

Staples website: 2 pack for 89 cents.

Amazon's downfall is going to be this kind of nonsense. People will stop shopping on there once they realize they have to spend an hour trying to save a buck.

You are too true about that. Made some real good money on Amazon stock but sold it all after shopping on Amazon a few times. If they get the myriad problems and the tremendously high rate of returns figured out I may buy back in. For now I see a big adjustment coming once the rest of the market figures out how unprofitable and hard to manage a business model Amazon is operating under. Seems the more business they do the larger their losses are. That is not a sustainable model.

I was on amazon looking for rare spark plugs
I found them at a few dealerships around the city, but thought amazon must have them cheaper...
I needed them right away so shipping was important.
Amazon was selling these plugs at roughly the same price as the dealerships, but shipping was 3 weeks away..
I continued to look and found again amazon selling the same plugs for $14 each more than their other ad and shipping was 3 days.
How the heck can they sell the same product at a whole bunch of prices?
All the plugs mentioned were fullfilled and shipped by amazon.
As with most things I do not find AMazon cheap
What I have bought from them cheap was just that.
Anything brand name seems to be just as expensive if not more

Haven't been in there for a couple years but when I shopped there, I was given a cash business account and got some great deals on pro grade Duracell double AA's for the trail cams.

Have to stop in now and see. Thanks for the heads up.

Dont forget not all items are coming from Amazon. Many are resellers selling their products so they can price at their price not necessarily Amazon pricing.

Best place to buy replacement LED bulbs for your RV tho. Camco leveler was reasonable too.

Don't know if Edmonton has one of these but in Calgary my go to place for the past several years has been Affordable Battery Specialists, on Manitou Rd in the SE. They are what Battery World used to be a decade or more ago. And they have just about everything there. Place I go for motorcycle batteries (must've bought 4 or 6 of these by now). Ironically they're across the street from a large motorcycle dealership = the worst place to buy anything. I'm due for a battery for the wife's scooter and will be calling them for a price. As the OP stated, things change, so a phone call can save you from digging deep into your wallet. Been a couple of years since I've been to Affordable and for all I know they too took the UNaffordable route by now.

Just a heads up that there is two Battery Worlds with the same name. The original one on 51st ave and another one on 50th or 66th street. The one on 51st ave still has great deals. The other one not so much. They are not affiliated with each other .
