How do you load your animals??

Just curious on how you load your big game animals into your trucks??? We normally just put our legs into it and one big grunt want to find something easier for us. Moose deer elk.

The nice thing about the portable winch is you can use it danged near anywhere

I have a set up that mounts into the hitch and extends off to the side and has a small picker crane that pivots to rotate the animal after it’s lifted up and onto the truck bed. It’s not one of the ones that is vertical to the hitch it’s more like what a garage would use to lift engines. That’s as much lifting as I feel like doing! I haven’t had the chance to use it on elk or moose, works good for deer.

If I know that i’m Going deer hunting I throw a stepladder in the back of the truck. Lay ladder flat and tie the deer’s head to the top of it. Lift end with head up on the tailgate and then lift and slide from the other end.

Nine times out of ten I don’t have it with me and for big deer I have to lift and tie off......lift and tie off.......etc.

Moose come home in pieces.

Deer I pick it up like a clean lift and throw it in, everything gets 1/4'd.

when I'm solo ill use a small set of block and tackle. not fast but effective. you can quickly improvise one with a rope and a couple of biners.

Deer, I just stand in the back of the truck and pull on the head. No problem so far. Bigger game I have zero experience with. I have been looking for an excuse to use my hitch hoist from princess auto. Tried once to lift one in from ground level, looked a fool.

Two guys can load a deer pretty readily in my Subaru Forester, with a cheap plastic tarp to help it slide in.

I need a new plan if hunting alone, and there is no handy cutbank to back up to.

If you can hoist a deer up a tree you can guide it back into the back of a SUV as you lower it.

At 71 we need to work "smarter" rather than harder.

Hunting alone I quarter the animal so packing it out is easier

For deer with a partner I just use a ratchet strap to hold the head up, both guys get in the box and grab an ear/antler and heave ho

A 2x3 in each stake pocket right behind the cab.A come along and a sling work wonders.3 2x6 and a sheet of plywood for a ramp.Moose or elk easily loaded by 1 person.

Lol I'll go run out tomorrow and get myself a tractor, maybe there will be a big sale on boxing day at John Deer this year hehe.

Personally I use the gutless method on everything because it tough to dispose of carcasses if you are a city folk like me. Quarters are easy to load, muscle power is all you need 😎

My truck has a canopy on it so that presents a problem in itself.

I use a bumper style hoist as well. Crank it up and rotate it to the tail gate and in it goes on a tarp...clean, no bending over when dressing it out....

One of the best pieces of kit I own....

I hunt alone most of the time, so I use a game cart to bring the deer to the truck.
I built a ramp (plywood) that fit in the box of the truck. Bring the deer head first to half way up the ramp from the ground, jump in the box and slide the deer on the ramp. the ramp fit on top of the deer on the way back home.
The ramp has 2 Extruded Aluminum Ramp Plate, 8-in.from canadian tire at one end, and 2 handles made of 5 mm rope at the other end. this works for me, loaded lots of big mule deer bucks this way, never hurt my back.....

These are sometimes called a moose caboose, calving sled, etc.

It is a 6 foot long high impact plastic sled with an A Frame hitch for a skidoo.

Its about 20 inches wide, with foot high sides and high impact plastic / nylon.

It will take any deer, cow elk, 1/2 a moose, etc.

Get some trifold Quad ramps, and a come along. for deer just lift the end onto the tailgate and push in.

For elk and moose you run it up to the ramps, and come along in until you reach the balance point and push. Tip the 1/2 of the elk / moose onto a tarp, pull it out, and load the other half.

Nice part is that the plastic takes incredible abuse on rocks and gravel.

Just drill a couple of holes and use 1/2 inch poly rope for dragging it by hand. If you have a quad or sled, leave the metal A frame on.

Winch them in with a set up similar to this one connected to the main battery with booster cables. Plywood ramp.



Worked great on my moose this year. Winched it out to the fenceline and straight into the truck.

Fits under my tonneau cover and easily removed when not in use.

I generally drop the tailgate.
Sit on said tailgate, and drop my pack with meat into the truck box.

The next minute or two walking around withought weight are amazing..... like walking on the moon!!

Just man handle them into the back of my car. Head/front shoulder in first then roll the rest in.

I drive a small truck (Ranger FX4), which makes things easier. For a buck, lift the head and brace the antlers against the tailgate while climbing into the box, then drag it in by the antlers. For a doe, it's easier to do the reverse, using the rear legs.

Elk or moose would have to be a different story.

Two guys can easily load half a moose or at least the moose we shoot.
