At which point, I would have charged him, there are horses where he planned to go. It just seemed like a pathetic attempt and I could see through it from the first sentence. The smell of cologne just made it more ludicrous.

Cologne while ‘hunting’, I’m picturing someone like Eugene Levy’s Bobby Bittman character, or maybe Andrew Dice Clay/ Christopher Moltisanti. Was he driving a Trans Am?

you get a guy stopping for permission and he is somehow the bad guy?? LOL.... What a backwards world we live in.... the guy stopping for permission isnt the problem here.

If you bought and paid for your own property it should be your perogative whether or not you give permission for others to hunt it. You shouldn’t have to defend that decision no matter what you choose.
But, as far as I’m concerned if you don’t allow others to hunt your property then you should also not be ellegible to receive a landowner’s tag either since you obviously don’t have an issue with excessive wildlife on your property otherwise you’d be welcoming hunters with open arms...
This is just a general observation and has nothing to do with the OP’s case.

i dont see an issue with denying access but to go to the point of ridiculing a guy for stopping by seems insane.
How soon till we see the op complaining about hunters not stopping to ask permission??

The guy asking for permission both looked bad (cologne, slick) and was apparently BS'ing the landowner to get permission. Both counts rubbed him the wrong way (opinion on the first but he's entitled to that, basic courtesy on the second) so he said no.
What's so hard to understand here? Be polite, be straight and you'll get a shot.

Many landowners allow access but only to friends and family which mean they may not be viewed as "welcoming with open arms" but they are allowing access.............but just to people they know and can trust.

Crazy story!
The thing with asking permission is you always need to be prepared for the big "NO". Its a reality. I average more yeses than no's, it still happens every year but BSing to gain access is just plain wrong, and so is cologne. Now if you said he reeked like Tinks #69, well then that's a whole different story. Not to derail the thread but I once asked a guy for permission to hunt geese on his barley fields. He said "Nope, no #@$%#&% way, those things mate for life" I may have pushed it too far when I asked about hunting the promiscuous Whitetails on the property. Good luck to you and your neighbour moving forward.
