Default Scope mounting tool

For the anal among us, would 1/4 X 3/4 aluminum bar stock be precise enough to make this tool seen at the 3 min mark of this video. I want to make some but tool steel is damn expensive.

Its like the level level level kit. If you're going to make this, I'd use steel so that it transfers magnetism. I'd also get precision ground stock.

Personally, I prefer the kit that clamps onto the barrel after you set the level of the rifle.

I think Aluminum would be way to soft.

Most 1/8 bar stock should work. Aluminum will work if it's straight. It's not like your going to bend it by using this technique. Give it a try and find out.

You are putting an abrasive grinding compound on the bar/rings to do the metal removal, aluminum rings you may be right, steel rings however would be a different story.

I must have seen a different video. The tool I thought the op was wanting was the flat bar with bubble level hot glued to it. For leveling the scope.....for lapping you definitely need good quality steel.

Any chunk aluminum or steel will work as long as it is straight

Probably just as accurate/straight as the $0.02 mass produced bubble level housing I'd think.
