Default Catalytic converter exhaust theft

I see its back on news again today .
Why why can they just make it against the law to sell or buy them in Canada
or any type of steal they are made out of .
Plus add a reward for any one reporting that someone is buying or selling .

Sounds easy to stop if the scumbags can't sell them they won't steal them

My truck currently has a giant cut mark in it from someone who attempted to steal the cat that either got spooked or decided not too. Happened just a month ago

Is the Edmonton catalytic convertor theft kingpin out again and back at for a third time?

https://globalnews.ca/news/9436595/c...ecycler-crime/

There is no real political or legal system will to stop this. Catch and release again.

Hit twice in one year on my 04 F250, V10. First seen a straight pipe replace the Cat. Second, I guess the dumb meth head couldn't tell he was cutting out a pipe and not a Cat. But he left behind one of his Sawzall batteries so I got more than he did.

Bonus, the V10 gets noticeably better mileage with the old Cat gone and some custom exhaust work done after the second hit.

My thought is, make the scrap yards like a pawn shop. You want to buy that Cat or multiple Cats at one time. Seller has to prove they are a legit wrecker of vehicles. And random over the counter sellers have to supply a photo ID to be copied and kept on file so police can do random checks like they do at pawn shops.

But the scum find ways as the last guy busted in Edmonton had a wrecking yard too. Only got busted on the Cats because he was caught in a drug sting.

Friend and I took his old beater into scrap yard after the guy offered him $500 for the car as scrap, first thing he did was check to see that the converter was still on the car. He would only have given $100 if the converter wasn't there. Said lots of guys cut them off, sell them somewhere then bring the car in to sell for scrap still expecting $500.

I was in one if the major scrap yards here in edmonton and a person brought in a cat while I was waiting to purchase some steel. I ask after the guy had left why they don't ask where he got it. Their reply was "It's nothing of our business where he got it". Last time I dealt with them.
