Default People, groups calling for Canada Day to be cancelled

Agree or disagree?

The influencers and SJW's are screaming for it to be stopped, in the light of the grave findings. They say that celebrating Canada Day in any way is a direct slap in the face for all the FN that have or are suffering.

Yeah I know, touchy subject but I live here too.

I don’t agree and will not cancel Canada Day. If they want to have another day to remember or whatever, I’m all for it.

I know its a touchy subject too, and not enough words to describe these finding!!

MY question is; how comes it seems that nobody missed any of these children , I haven't heard about a list of missing children , so if you didn't miss them away back when why are we FN's upset now

They can pound sand. Sick of the entitlement thing..........always.
It's a day we look forward too with our flags flying.
We don't have to jump thru hoops and change everything for 4.9 % of the population. Don't like it pack up and move.

3- there are many online forums saying that Canada day everywhere should be about indigenous struggles, below is the picture being shared by a group but you will find countless comments about the rest of the country changing Canada day to National Indigenous Day- and some backlash of course
This is of course a very benign poster, it is the comments that follow that wind up people.

4- milennials are calling it KKKanada day. They have no clue what it is all about

OK 3 is show more support for FIRST NATION PEOPLE or natives as the term I learned in high school

so 3 may need the word first inserted to properly identify where the support is intended to go towards
( I.e. not Canada)

Indigenous aren't suddenly upset now, they've been upset about the children who never made it home for decades. Their children have always been missed. Government, Indian Affairs and Church have lied, covered up and ignored. These findings only validate what they've been speaking about for many years and other Canadians are finally learning the truths about the residential school system.

Many people other than natives knew about the issues since we were kids.
Not all " Canadians" are ignorant of the issues that have been ongoing for generations .

I wasn’t in support of messing with Canada day until I realized how common this lack of understanding you show here really is. Unfortunately it seems like most of us have no clue on this subject, FN people have been trying to get someone to deal with this issue of missing children for decades now.

It’s still an EXTREME measure to consider but maybe that’s what it will take?

I grew up not knowing anything about racism, I am 83 right now. I have learn about racism in the last 4 or 5 months. I do not feel that racism is right, but why did it take me so long to learn. I grew up when appartently it flourished. God I hate getting old.

July 1 seems a bit different to me since they changed it from Dominion day to Canada back in the early 80s.

Despite all of Canada's problems, past and present, it's still a pretty good place to live. I must admit that I am very worried about the future as I'm concerned about the direction that we are heading.

Proud Canadian here. I will celebrate it for what it is, not for what some want it to be. Its a great county to live in.

Exactly, known about this since I was a kid when they closed the school on the local reserve and bussed them to school off the reserve with the rest of us kids. It was common knowledge what went on in residential schools. We learned it in history and social studies classes in elementary school over 50 years ago.

Thought everybody knew what went on in those places, find it vexing today that people especially gov't pretending ignorance of what went on there.

I learned about residential schools in social studies when I was in grade 9 or so (21 now so not long ago) so its surprising to me to see how many people, younger and older have no clue about them

But I can say I disagree on the whole cancel culture taking over everything these days

Celebrate as usual, I even decided to close my business on Canada Day, to honor it properly. Never in 24 years has it been closed on Canada Day.

Enough division and hate, let us celebrate in unity.

Many people will view canceling the Canada Day celebrations as a form of protest, and like most protests, for every person whose support you gain, you will lose the support of at least one other person.

Anyone who would support the cancellation of Canada Day celebrations should get their bloody azzes out of this country. This is sickening. CANADA IN 2021 IS NOT A RACIST COUNTRY. There are obviously, and unfortunately, racists here, but as a whole, I defy anyone to give me an example of a measurably more tolerant country.

Can we be more supportive, and become more educated about how residential schools have affected our First Nations? Of course. But we are not a racist country. Canceling Canada Day is so far beyond the pale that words haven't been invented that describe that level of lunacy.

For sure, this is beyond ridiculous.

This movement to cancel Canada Day looks to be quite the flex by those who are seeking to divide us further. It should be a day of bringing us closer together.

And the turd is happy, 6 years ago he cut Alberta out, now the wowk are doing the rest of the job for him.

Canada Day should be celebrated more so now and use this as a day to be more inclusive of others within our borders.

If you want to protest, protest the lack of leadership from our politicians and the divisive undertones coming from Ottawa. Ottawa does not give us equal representation across the vastness of Canada.

Media (bought and paid for by king blackface) hype. With an election on the horizon I'm sure it will be Harpers fault. On a lighter note, Climate Barbie is retiring.
