Default Golf Course (Edmonton Area) - Beginner

Hello,

I’m looking for a nice quiet golf course within an hour of Sherwood Park.
My wife has been to the driving range a few times but has only played a round once in her life around 10 years ago. I really don’t want to take her any place too busy so we can have a nice enjoyable round.

I was thinking Bent Stick, Cardiff, Tofield.

Any recommendations?

Miquelon Hills and elk island are perfect. Scratch Cardiff off the list.

Cardiff is a really nice little course. Whitetail Crossing in Mundare is very nice as well.

Elk Island course. Cheap to play, wide fairways, easy course. Nobody pushing you from behind. At +35c. LikeLy only person on course.

It's been 15 years since I last golfed there, but Fort In View was a nice course that wasn't too challenging or busy. My info may be dated though.

Much closer, nice course, very quiet. Catttail Crossing about 2 miles west of the Edmonton Namao Garrison. You can also golf at the Garrison course, they allow civilian golfers, rates are low, course it quiet. both are 18 hole courses. About 15 minutes on the Henday, take the 82 St exit, you can't hit Valour ave off of 97St.

Cattail has an EXCELLENT restaurant run by the guy the used to own and chef at the Hardware grill downtown. Way up from most restaurants and far from standard golf course food. I don't golf but I eat at the restaurant at least once a week.

If you got a park pass, Elk Island all the way. My kid and his 2 friends cut their teeth there as it was free for 12 & under. The staff don't push you as they know it is more for kids, beginners and duffers. Nice 9 hole Couse and you can eat there after.

I golfed that course with my parents before they fenced it off. Used to see Buffalo, Elk and everything else on the fairways.

The city has some nice par 3 courses to practice the irons on, Rundle and Kinsmen.

Heard an add on the radio this AM. QR 770. The advertising golf course had take, probably after a tournament, 2 hrs worth of tee times for beginners. 18 holes were rented out for an hour and a half, but each group never leaves their hole. So if you are assigned hole 15, it is yours for an hour and a half. Take your time hit balls, putt, sun bath they don't care, just enjoy. No pressure, no waiting, just learn. I thought it was a great idea.

Fox run on highway 21 between Sherwood park and Fort Saskatchewan is a great beginner course. Usually really quiet and mostly older folks that go there.

We ended up going to triple creek. Great value. My wife loved it. We had to drive past Belvedere on the way out. Triple creek was twice as green.
Thanks for all the advice. We will be going back for sure.

+1 for Fox Run. Always in good shape and it turns off a lot of people (some non-millenials would call them millenials) because they don't do online bookings. Makes the course a little less busy.
