Default This bloody heat is getting worrisome, is this the beginning of a drought?

Unless I'm way of base which I hope I am,is this heat wave a concern for our farmers ? I water my garden every evening and still stuff is drying up, I can't imagine what's happening in fields ,must be getting awful dry now I'm guessing, hope we get rain soon to cool things down, all the best to you guys stay cool.

It’s okay. We don’t need farmers- food comes from grocery stores...

Default We have no ground water

All sloughs are dry except for the algae infested puddles. I went out to check the irrigation ditch DU was supposed to give us controlled water levels with when they flooded weed lake and it is dry. No water for the brooding ducks unless they congregate in the algae pools. I foresee a very large kill off from avian botulism in the summer. Neighbor farms along Weed Lake and reported the water level dropped enough to expose 60 feet of mud from normal levels to where the water starts now. that will be another botulism site this year.
We would need about 3 weeks of rain to get us to a tolerable level but I dont see that happening until September if at all.

Bittern lake west of camrose is a good place for buffalo skulls when it’s totally dry.

Dry land crops in the very south of the province have already been wrote off. It's the worst some have seen in the Milk River area.

There is a week of rain in the forecast, so hopefully that helps crops to recover. The heat wave is certainly tolerable and its short lived, I only really worry for the farmers.

It does make me wonder how much more of the snowpack got melted than normally would have, will we be seeing lower than normal river levels for the duration of the summer?

Rivers are roaring right now in the mountains. Due to the heat. She’s melting to fast up high.

Looks uneven though. From the data on the AB Rivers app the Athabasca and upper Bow are roaring but the smaller streams in the Oldman basin are pretty low already. I’m a little worried about what we’ll see in August.

We pretty much started the farming season as a drought. In the south anyway we had very little snow and none or limited sub surface moisture. Some moisture in the spring gave us good emergence with most crops and the inch of rain after seeding got us going pretty good. Since then we’ve only gotten 6 tenths in two showers. Dryland crops across a wide area of the south are now in critical condition with cereals a total failure in some cases and thin canola trying to flower in the heat and suffering from heat blast.

As an agronomist I cover the area between Magrath and Carmangay. You can see more on my YouTube channel AgroPlus News from the field.

The scary thing is that far too many "city folks" and "woke", actually believe that!
Just like you hunters who "should get your meat from the grocery store where no animals were harmed".

And what's real horrifying is that they get to VOTE too!!

I have to ask, what is the origin of those stickers

I live in the city and have yet to meet anyone who thinks that food doesn't come from a farm.

Reading and listing to some weather experts today and already talking about another on the way in about 7 to 10 days coming up from California this time. Expects peak temps close yo only 40 this time not 50. We are not done yet. Saw it on some U.S. sites too warning people down there already.

It ain't over here yet we had a little shower this morning nothing else, good thing is though the temperature has dropped 10 degrees which makes it a lot more tolerable. Inyears gone by after a big heat there would be a big thunderstorm and rain and sometimes hail, nothing like that this summer.its all changed it seems.
