Jackpine river
Looking for any info on hiking to the jackpine. I have been trying to do some research but am not finding much other then what I've found on the couple maps I have. How bad is the ford at muddywater? How intense a hike, and how long will it take? Any info is appreciated. PM if you prefer, thanks

So does Frenchman's Creek flow into the Jackpine River?
In 45 years of chasing trout in Alberta, that's a new stream to me. Just curious, where is it?

Thanks,,, Okay, so that explains why it's not really on the "radar map".
Certainly might be an adventuresome fishing trip to fish a pristine river in a wilderness setting, but I'll have to leave that trip for younger legs than mine!!!

28km one way. Certain parts of it have the bigger fish we're really looking for. Its a long way in. If time allows i will be trying to get in there this summer.

We are just in the planning stages, but were looking at mid to late aug, and probably 7 days out there. So hopefully it will give us enough time to find those big fish.

You will be looking at a minimum of two days hiking one-way just to get into the decent water. That is assuming that the trail has been cleared. A lot of the trail runs through a burn section and my understanding is that there is a lot of deadfall over the trail every year. Some of the people that I know in the area recommend allowing for 3 days travel time each way making a 7 day trip not quite enough time for quality fishing.

There's a trappers cabin on the Jack Pine . I would imagine that if you can find the trail it would be kept clear.

That sounds like an amazing trip, well worth the vigorous hike to fish a remote stream for untouched native char. Also, by a crazy coincidence, I was just talking to someone at work today about the same trip.

Has anybody made this trip yet? It's been one on my radar for a few years now. I've been as far as the Muddywater, but it was moving pretty good and seems to be a fairly deep little river. I heard the Wilmore Wilderness Foundation did some trail clearing out that way last summer.
Thanks,
