Default Rangefinder for shooting and golf

I target shoot. The wife golf’s. She finally decided a rangefinder would be useful. I say sweet! I could use it too. I do a lot of shooting on private property with out marked distances. Any recommendations for optics that will do both???

I use my vortex Ranger for both. it has red indicators which makes it kind of hard to read in bright sunlight (golf course) but it works.

One thing to keep in mind is how it reads distances. I have the cheap leupold one that cabelas and bass pro sell; it ranges against a larger area so it struggles with smaller targets in an open field. Once you know how to use it, it works great. It would work fine on a golf course but if the shot is uphill it would struggle a little bit. If you spend more on the unit it will laser sight and those are way easier to use.

$75 Bushnell handheld. Bought it a few years ago from a fellow AOer. Works solidly while bowhunting, rifle hunting, golfing and just about anywhere/anytime else. Works as well as the $600 Garmin Golf unit my buddy has, with a few less options. I can range pins on the golf course or front / back of hazards, etc.

Don't have to get fancy, just needs to work. Look into the lower price stuff if funds are limited - you may be surprised at how well the "low end" stuff works.

I had a buddy that I was golfing with the other day that was using a rangefinder he got off of amazon and it was pretty awesome for the price, I think he paid $150? it had everything including slope, speed scan etc. I was pretty impressed when comparing it to my leupold

i would make sure any range finder you have has angle compensating technology not just Line of Sight. A quick google search will have you educated in no time what this means....

Bushnell owns the golf market. Slope will give you adjust up/down yardages. It should be good for shooting also.
Leupold makes excellent golf range finders but no where near the market share. Good glass also.

Either of those would be good. Models change quite a bit but the technology doesn't really.

Default Bushnell for me

I use my Bushnell camo one for both and works great, just doesn't buzz when I get the pin distance. It's about 15 yrs old too!

For a non expensive but great quality I would also suggest the maven. They are little bulkier then most typical range finders with the knob on the side but great glass.
