When hunting bear, only look uphill!
Though this is probably more prevalent where I learned to hunt in BC; They roll alright but are near impossible to drag.

Look for movement not animals and remember that movement is also what the animals are looking for.

That is more of a specialized thing, it's not needed for new hunters , but a good set of binoculars is a must.

Agreed, not needed for us bush hunters up North! So many great tips here, the only one that comes to mind for me is PATIENCE! I am still struggling with that one.

Agreed , patience is something that cannot be bought, it has to be experienced and learned, many of us still struggle with it at times!

If you want to party all night in camp, stay in camp. If you want to hunt, be well rested and sober.

Best advice ever. 20 years ago I told my neighbour where he could find a whitetail buck. He scored, then dragged his brother (a notorious big mouth) and son there too…then a few years later he was telling me about his great hunting place. He has been trying to get me to take him to my elk patch for many years but I learned from the first time.

You learn more from your mistakes than successes. Nonsense, success teaches you what to keep doing, all failure teaches you is what not to do again, it doesn't teach you what will work next time. I don't need a long string of failures in order to appreciate success.
I do enjoy the whole process and experience of being out in the woods, sunrises, good company, beautiful views, but I can do that fishing, quading, or going for a walk. None of those are hunting.

Not one person said you learn more from mistakes than success.

Not trying to start an argument, all I was getting at is I have a bit different view than what has become commonly accepted mantra. "Every hunting show and many hunters say regularly; I hunt for the experience, it isn't about the kill, I hunt to put quality food on my families table, I want to contribute to conservation and the perpetuation of our sport etc. Those are all laudable objectives, and many of them get accomplished as a byproduct of hunting and I am sure they apply to certain people, and in part to me. Personally, I hunt mostly because I have done it all my life and I really enjoy it. Hunting and shooting is the one hobby that has never waned.

All good. I didn't take it that way. Good discussion
So if you rolled in on Day 1 of every hunt and stood over your kill the first morning, like clockwork, every single time, you wouldn't concede that close shaves and screw ups and retribution after a few days wouldn't enrich that experience? I had a cow elk hunt take 8 days to connect about 6 years ago. Full of drama and ultimately a cow on the ground. That trip was a blast- made better by the close calls the 7 days prior.
But we're not all that different. If you look up my old post history I could also be quoted as saying the kill is the primary part of the hunt. It's the main reason I go. Soooo, we're really not all that different.... had the script been flipped and I hunted 8 days and went home empty handed, that hunt would not be in my top 4-5 all time. Blood matters

Used to hunt coyote tourneys and I loved it when contestants would pull up with jacked up/loud trucks.

If you hear an area is good from lots of hunters or has high harvest numbers it means lots of people hunt there not that it’s the best place to hunt X species
Chase live game not gut piles
