Default Heat wave

With the extreme heat and drought in many parts of the province, what is your opinion on the effect it will have on the area that you hunt and the overall game population

Some of the muskeg areas we could not get into the last 2 years due to water may be accessible this year. We'll see...

Food sources will be will be fewer, water will be key. Nothing changes in the animal kingdom. They are slaves to their bellies and will feed/ bed based on best food available most security available. Those places will change year to year based on environmental things...they still need best feed available, most security possible, with water within reasonable distances. Often these years it a bit easier as they tend to be less scattered

Ive been enjoying the steady increase in waterfowl numbers over the years. Hate to see them take another beating.

Definitely going to be a bad horn year I'm thinking if you're into that kind of thing which I am

Typically in draught years, the stored energy in plants is greater than lush years... Horn growth may surprise you this year.

Good luck.

Unless this turns around, it’s going to be tough to get access to hunt in the prairie WMUs. Bad year to cash in priority points on some draws.

Birds are liable to be pretty concentrated on a very few spots in given areas where there is some roost water and fields they like, so will hunter competition. Wait & see whether we can get enough rain to do any good for farmers and waterfowl.

Around here game is plentiful, just had two 140 class bucks walk around the burn barrel....hmmm maybe they like that mineral crap I poured out there?
Area is dried up so the pinch points I had are now non existent so gonna change things up a bit but that’s part of the challenge....but wait we could sock in for a lot of rain too in the future...ya never know....but I do know one thing I will be poking around out there regardless of weather.

I agree with this. Fire hazards will prevent access. Access won't be granted unless things turn around and won't be given until later in the season to see if it rains.
