Hope everyone has been doing well.
A quick write up and a few pics of my successful hunting season.
Work had me busy for all of September, holding a moose tag for 512 and working a shutdown was no fun
This was a special hunt as my dad was joining me. First moose hunt together since we lost grandpa.
We were disappointed to find our old areas had mostly been washed out from a wet summer. No access to the spots we wanted.
We quickly hatched a plan to walk in from alternate points.
Long story short we had walked nearly 35km over the course of 4 days.
We had returned to one spot a few times as it was just a short walk from an old abandoned gas well road to a nice flat for calling.
Our third day in that area had us walk around the corner face to face with a 9 point bull. He spun and ran. I took a knee, cow called , he turned to look back over his shoulder. Dad whispers “about 130”
I squeeze the shot. Dropped . Perfect neck shot. He was done when we got to him. We were really happy. This was the only moose seen in 1200 km of driving and 35km of walking, over many days and many areas.
A little lean as the rut was on and the fat reserves were low. But I’m glad to report that the little bull is delicious
