Default Evidence of sex and Species

Its been years since I hunted for a cow . Reading in the regs ,I must have the udder attached and I must bring back the head . Must be so they can tell if you have a moose or elk . Anyways once back in the city. What / Where is the best way of disposing of the head and the bones.

I keep them in the freezer until green bin day so they don't stink it up rotting. Toss in there and that's it.

My dog gets the bones.

When we harvest something and butcher day is done, I just cut everything up nice and small with the Sawzall and box it up. If we have another trip out to the woods, it goes back to where it came from to feed the critters, inc the hide.

Other times we gave all the edible scraps to the neighbor who fed his dogs raw food. My other friends always wanted the bigger bones for their big dogs to chew on.

Worst case, those couple boxes went into a friends shop dumpster.

This is moose, elk and deer. No cwd harvests as we didn't hunt those zones. This year will be the first time hunting a Cwd zone northeast of here so will have to change what we normally do with the left overs if successful.

For cow moose and elk, and female deer, pronghorns and bison...
You only need to satisfy ONE of these three sets of evidence.
For cow elk and moose, you do not need to save both the udder and head.

-----

The evidence of sex, species or class that must be retained
is as follows:

moose, elk, deer, antelope, bison and non-trophy
sheep – attached to the same part of the animal to
which the tag is affixed, one of the following:

-testicles, scrotum, or udder, and in the case
of deer only, the completely haired tail, or

-the head with horns or antlers attached if the animal has horns
or antlers, or

-the head (complete with the skin on it) if the animal has no
horns or antlers,

and in addition

-the complete skull plate with horns or antlers intact must be
retained with the carcass of the male antelope, male elk or male
non-trophy sheep

-the complete head must be retained with the carcass of a calf
moose harvested under authority of a Calf Moose Special
Licence.

------

It's ridiculously easy to find dog owners that will happily pick up any bones or scraps.... no need to put any of that good stuff in the garbage.

Apparently 10 steps off Bessiedog's running trail is popular place to dump carcasses too. You would have to PM him for exact GPS coordinates. He will probably even want to meet you out there...

Here in Sherwood Park I throw the heads in the green bin for garbage day as mentioned above. Sometimes hides too. I’ll skin in the bush if there is snow on the ground otherwise it’s in the garage for skinning and hides, heads and hooves end up in the green bin...

To simplify:
If you shoot a cow moose and tag it with an antlerless moose tag, and you keep the udder attached to the portion that the tag is affixed, then you’re done. Nothing more is required.

If you shoot anything different then refer to the statement above copied from the regs

In Edmonton put them in black bags for garbage pick up on the curb or alley.
