Exactly, you should be familiar with Wildlife Act, Public Lands Act and Firearms Act. In all honesty, they aren't difficult to comprehend and its in your best interest to understand them.
In all my encounters with conservation officers, they 100% of the time ask you what you are doing. They can't make an assumption that you are hunting unless they witness you engaging in hunting activities as described in the acts OR that you admit to hunting. However, if you are hunting, you need a wildlife certificate and any other certificate/tags that apply.
Possessing a firearm alone does not constitute hunting activity, you can legally carry a firearm on crown land for recreational purposes, protection or for any other reason you want as long as long as it complies with the acts and local bylaws.
