Archery Main Range

Archery Raised Stand (Target at the bottom -- 5M drop over 20M horizontal) Tough to see the target board at the bottom. Search SPFGA Gallery in the Archery section for better pics.) Also included with the Archery Range is a 300M Trail Walk with 3D about 15 shooting lanes with 3D targets.

Campsites are unserviced...but none-the-less are becoming quite popular. Campsite loop has sites appropriately sized for motorhomes down to single tents.

Clubhouse is open year round with water only during non-freeze periods. Indoor toilets, showers, kitchen, and a large open area. Between Oct - March, the Clubhouse is often used by Cadets, Scouts...youth groups for winter camping activities.

As you leave, a look back at the Main Gate....behind which all the pictures featured in this "gallery" were shot. SPFGA has a block of 720 acres at this site which has Kms of groomed hiking trails. Hope you enjoyed the "introduction" to the SPFGA facility.

I am sure that it would be nicer to shoot off of one of those benches to sight in that it would be off of a table in a field.

I may seriously think about joining now.

Thanks for the pics.

Is there a policy on bringing guests to use the facility if you are a member?

Awesome!
I have been spending an evening almost every week out there at the archery range for the last few months.

Will probably go to the gun ranges a little more when it starts getting closer to november.

Its a great place for sure and theres never anyone at the archery range so its always peaceful and theres no one there to laugh at my horrible shooting.
lol

Keep up the good work at SPFGA!

Schian

The worst part about the place is the maintenance man has nicer rifles than I do...

I second Bobby B's statement. It is an absolute treat to belong to SPFGA. The rates are very reasonable and the facility is absolutely beyond top notch. In addition, the members do a wonderful job of working together to ensure safety at all times.

I have shot at other ranges where one nearly had to come to blows with other members when trying to enforce the most basic of safety rules (i.e. handling firearms while range was closed and people were downrange putting up and taking down targets).

No such shenanigans at this place.

And we get a glossy magazine in the mail to put on top of the toilets in our basements. What more could a guy want?

To the Executive and their uber high-priced help (260 Rem), keep up the great work!

The bad news is, the membership cap for 2013 was reached back in March. SPFGA now has about 4000 members. There will be a limited number of new Range Memberships available for 2014 --- I will do a post when the club starts accepting applications for new members. 2013 Range Members get first dibs on memberships until the 4000 cap for 2014 is reached---and then the club will accept applications from potential new members.
No "guest" provisions.

Here's a close-up of the benches...and you are right, there is not much "wobble" that can be attributed to the bench We are looking for a block layer to build four more units ASAP. We have the tops, just need the labor. So, if anybody knows a block layer...pm me.

Sept 30 - decided it would be best to widen the lane between 200 - 300M on the big Bore, so had the Bobcat in last night. Pic below is the final grade before black dirt is spread (dirt was placed today and should be spread by Weds (weather permitting). Pic is from the center of the 300M boards towards the shooting shed.

December 31 - and most of the work planned for 2013 has been completed. Carry over will be the addition of some more concrete shooting benches as we never found a block layer before freeze-up.
A card-swipe/ system and some upgrades to the camera system will be completed in the spring. Members will be using proximity fob's to unlock the front gate. Details to follow.
If approved in the budget, the following is planned for 2014:
- metal shrouds for all gongs including the Handgun Range
- widening of the Black Powder Trail Walk to make machine grooming possible
- a better designed target butt for the stand simulation on the Archery Range
- some improvements to 3D targets/lanes at the Archery Range
- a lot of perimeter fenceline work.
- possible upgrades to the Clubhouse kitchen.

If assistance is needed to "spruce up" the archery walk I could volunteer some time on weekends.

Be talking to you in the spring Lefty. I ran a mulcher down the main trail in early Dec, but we need to do some slash work on the shooting lanes and do a bit of upgrade on the 3D's. I'm also going to do a new target butt for the Stand Simulation.

Wow. Was on Vancouver Island and went to what I believe they call is the Comox Valley Fish and Game club, had ranges similar and what was really neat a cowboy shoot set up, little town, rustic looking just another point if you get the right people together with the right passion the sky is the limit.

See this

for pics of the facilities and the players that 58theCat posted about.

Clubhouse is on a wilderness lake, with glacier above the far shore.

Thanks twofifty, that's the one, we went to visit my parents, ended up their on Comox lake and took a look around, what a place. Like I said get a great group of like minded people together and you can set up an area like this one for the whole family to enjoy.
