Drawn
My ciphering isn't too good. Does it say anywhere in the regs that you must purchase the tag that you have been drawn for? For example, you are only allowed one elk tag. You get drawn for cow. Do you have to purchase the cow tag, or can you purchase a general tag instead and go hunt a bull?

From the regs:
A Resident Adult may obtain only 1 of the first 6 licences.
It doesn't say anywhere that you have to purchase the drawn tag.

If you purchase your resident elk tag, it will nullify your antlerless draw at the time of purchase!
You do not have in your possession the tag till you actually purchase it.
A we bit more planning next time huh?

Thanks Dick. From the other thread not one person suggested this could be an option. They all said No you can't.

The system will not allow you to purchase a general tag if you have been drawn.

My thoughts are, why put in for a draw and not hunt the species? Someone else didn't get a tag because you were drawn.

You are not even required to purchase your draw tag........regardless, you still won't be able to purchase a general licence.

Ok, I just had a quick look. The info is provided in the Alberta Hunting Draws booklet under special licences which is listed under common licence mistakes.

In BC it got so that a bunch of PETA people would put in for draws and then not purchase tags just to "save some animals"
Then it became mandatory to purcahse the tag. Which PETA people still did.
here in Alberta the use of the priority system helps get rid of this because if you are not drawn it helps ensure that actual hunters go up in priority.

No you do not have to purchase any tag you were drawn for (flaw in the system IMO) but you that is the only tag you can purchase that season for elk.
If you were drawn no you cannot purchase a general tag but no you do not need to buy that tag if you don't want to go elk hunting.

Which is exactly why you aren't allowed to purchase a general tag, if you were drawn for a special license.

IMO you need to take that tag and use it. Someone else missed out on an opportunity to get that tag so you have an obligation to use it. If you decide not to use it then I'm glad your priority goes down because frankly you don't deserve to be going out there and getting the chance to hunt such a great creature. Sorry for being blunt but that's what I think.

once you are drawn for a certain tag you can not get another tag of the same species,so if you are drawn for a cow elk you can not get a bull tag nomatter what.

X1000
So if the tag is "wasted" by never being bought some one out there that put in for it and didn't get would be missing out

No you can't, they put a stop to that nonsense a few years ago.

As recently as last year, you could legally shoot 2 elk.

If you are counting the Suffield cull hunt that was a one of a kind....it is now a draw code.
