Mulies in general hold their antlers longer then whitetail and some carry into April! That being said I find majority of whitetails are dropped by mid march an mulies usually by April!

Default Finally

Shed hunting has been very slow, the waist deep or even deeper powder is not helping. I'm at 10 now, I found a decent mulie set today with no more than 3 inches of antler sticking out of the snow.

Has been a great year so far 38 deer sheds and one elk shed. Today was the best day my daughter and I both found 5, but of course she found the biggest one.

Been a slow spring for us due to the snow conditions in the timber, so me and my dad went south and stuck to the south facing slopes. We managed to find 26 over the last 2 weekends. Fresh snow falls still kept getting in the way, heading to athabasca next weekend hopefully it is all gone by then.

Default Question

Do you need a permit or license to pick up sheds? What about skulls with antlers attached?

When (if?) we go camping, I thought I might do a search and see if I could find any,

Thanks.

Its legal to pick up sheds when ever, if it has skull plate attached you will need to gain a permit.

Ill be going out on the weekend to take a look around was out and about on saturday but still to much snow in my area, 3ft in some areas.

Got out by athabasca this weekend but one of the land owners decided not to let us on this weekend which was a set back but we still did okay given the snow conditions up there. Found my first ever elk, it is nearly as small as they come. The elk in our area were taking their time to shed, a group of four on trail cam still had all their antlers on the 15th.

A great trail cam photo! Looks like you have quite the nice hunting area! Best of luck in the fall.
