Default First Bear of the year spotted last Wed

Sorry no pics.

Had a smallish cinnamon black try to cross the highway and zip into Lundbreck.
It took my eyes some time to figure out what the heck I was looking at as it ambled up the ditch.

I've heard of grizz being up this early... but it's real early for black bears.

Must be the super warm temps we've been having.

Anyone else seeing track?

Starting my outdoor runs so I should be able to maybe see grizz track soon.

I was told that sometimes younger bears make poor den selections like culverts and such. When the weather warms up a bit they get a rude awakening and get up whether they want to or not.

Had a black bear running down the road in front of us when going ice fishing in early February a few years ago. It was a warm spell and water was running. I think this bear likely got wet and was actively searching for a new den site.

The OPs bear may be up for the year at this point....

There have been reports of a couple of bears out around Firebag NE of Ft McMurray.

Any logging in the area? I've been told of dozer's or skidder's working in the bush and pushing over big old stumps or brush piles, waking up and scaring out the odd bear from it's sleep.
