Default Kuiu vs Sitka sizing?

I'm looking at a Kuiu jacket and am wondering if anyone has experience with both. I know Sitka's fit is a little snug and am wondering if Kuiu is similar? Thanks.

Yeah, snug fit. I ordered one size up from usual and that was just right.

Not too familiar with the Sitka fit Chuck but Kuiu is pretty snug. I'm 6' and 180 with a 32" waist. I wear the large jackets and the pants fit well and are correctly sized......maybe a touch long in the legs for me but that's better than too short.

i own lots of sitka stuff. A buddy of mine has some Kuiu, I've tried it on. I would say Kuiu fits smaller.

I believe Sitka adjust each piece to layer. So if you buy a Large outter piece you "should" buy large base and mid layer.

What jacket are you looking at?

The large jacket fits great when I've got a base layer and/or mid layer. I wouldn't try to fit a sweater or an insulation layer in there as well - it would be too snug.

Guys are saying Kuiu fit "tight" but I don't agree. They fit. The four way stretch in that jacket is outstanding. The jacket doesn't hang off you but it isn't restrictive either. Very well designed. You'll be happy with it.

I run both Sitka and kuiu including the guide jacket and pants in large. Kuiu fits true to size, form fitting for an athletic build. I comparison with my Sitka cloudburst jacket and pants, I would say Sitka fits looser in size Large than Kuiu.

if possible, try one on before you buy. They fit slim and small for size.

Kuiu fits true to size unless your over weight. Guide jacket is defiantly not a snug fitting jacket. I'm 6' 190lb and can still layer under a size large guide jacket.

Where are you located? I was at the Calgary boat and sportsmens show this weekend and stopped at the kuiu booth. They had lots of samples, and the guys working really knew what they were talking about, and took the time to explain everything. In the market for a new pack, I ordered the icon pro 5200.
If you're in or around Edmonton, I would imagine the same guys will be doing the Edmonton show in a couple weeks - you could go there and talk to them, try a few jackets on before spending the $ on it.
Just an idea.

Who is the rep?

I'm not near Edmonton but would love to chat with him.

He will likely chime in here. Dallas Cota, dallasc@kuiu.com.

Everyone likes things to fit different and has different expectations from each piece on how they expect to layer things. I'm 6'1" 200lb and an XL works for me.

I have the guide jacket in large and it fits great, Im 5'9 185lb. Athletic fit and just enough room for the mid layer if I need it. I found Sitka was snugger, im a 32 waist but needed a 34 pant with Sitka where the KUIU was true fit both with the attack and guide pant.

end of story. if you have a big gut you may need to go up a size because they don't use vanity sizing

Or if your arms are bigger than pipe cleaners.
Or if you have shoulders large enough to hold your rifle sling.

from a medium to a 2xl there is a 2" difference in shoulder and arm length combined.

99% of people need it for their gut

Here I am in A Tad Gear XL jacket. They are also an "athletic " fit. But that doesn't mean I can use an XL Kuiu. That is why I asked the question. But true to form we have people commenting that have likely never seen a Kuiu jacket let alone tried one on.

it looks like you like your clothes a little baggy but you're not a big guy so you would fit an xl similarly to your picture.

i own both kuiu and sitka sets of clothing but i've moved to arcteryx recently.

Why ask the question if you don't listen to what people have to say?

You look like a narrow shouldered person, so go blow 300$ and tell us how much you like or dislike it. I can almost guarantee you'll give us your feedback whether we ask for it or not.

Nice moose.

IT's oka to ask about quality gear but who in there right mind asks what size or how tight something is or how snug it may fit them maybe your tailor, everyone is built different so you have to go down and figure this out. What is snug or lose to one guy maybe totally different from another,is just a jacket not a Ferrari .This is my experience in dressing because I practice it alone take it or leave it.

I just purchased the Kuiu guide jacket and pants and i had the chance to try on the gear at the calgary boat and sportsmen show this weekend. I am 6' 2 and 205 lbs and i normally wear a 34" pant and a large jacket. They fit nicely but i wouldnt be able to put any layers underneath comfortably so i ended up going with an xl jacket and 36 pants, neither fit baggy but left me with just enough room underneath to comfortably fit some base layers. They are an athletic fit so keep that in mind. Really nice stuff cant wait to get it!
