Default New Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Puppy

I have a 10 week old WPG and wondering when is a good time to start introducing some pheasant scent on wings? Dragging them around in the backyard and hiding them.

I have tied up a bunch of tail feathers together and throw them like darts, she seems to like to retrieve that more than a ball.

Second big question is does anyone have an excellent recommendation for some bird training/trainer close to Calgary?

WWBirds on this forum is a professional trainer. Send him a pm. He owns a shooting preserve and kennel. Can't think of a better setup than that.

You might also consider joining a versatile hunting dog club, like Prairie Vista, as a new handler needs training, as well as the dog.

Default Get out your fishing rod

Go out in the park or in your back yard with a pheasant wing tied onto your fishing pole.

Let your pup chase but do not let him catch it unless he shows little interest.
After a bit your pup should stop chasing and point it.

I did it with a litter of 8 GSP's I had. It was easy to sell pups that point.
