You're about 3-4 Flames fans on an Oiler thread???? You should be complaining about lack of Oiler fans on the Oilers thread...don't worry about us....we're fine

Come by the Flames thread....you're always welcome

Do you think he's sick of the mall yet?

I think he is a young kid (20) that doesnt have much of a supporting cast and feels its all on his shoulders. Countless times he explodes and goes by the opponenets to set up his teamates and they dont finish the play with a goal. I also dont think they have the confidence in Talbot anymore. He seems to have alot of greasy rebounds no matter what type of shot comes his way. Last game they only had 21 shot againsts but 6 went in. Didnt help matters that Mclellan kept him in net and didnt pull him during that debacle. Not sure what Mclellan was thinking. But i dont think he has been thinking very much this season. His line matchups suck. Only coach in the league that would play Lucic during a 3 on 3 overtime which was absolutley stupid a few games back. Lots has to be addressed...

I am a Flames fan and would kill to get McDavid...unfortunately the same speed that blows through defences also (at times) outpaces his own line. Feeling the pressure of a big contract and rabid fans I think he's trying to do too much on his own. He'll settle down.

BUT...if you want to trade...

You make a good point about linemates that cannot keep up with him. No player in the league can keep up with him when he has the puck and turns on the jets. He needs a throttle limiter at times.

One player can't carry a team for long, and trying to carry the team all by himself will result in nothing but frustration for him. If the management and coaching staff doesn't figure out a solution very soon, the frustration will start having a very negative effect on him, and his production will fall off.

One thing for sure Lucic is not the solution....that one contract (with McDavid and Draisitl) is going to haunt the Oilers and significantly affect their ability to sign quality players, the very players needed to help McDavid out.

Lucic is good in front of the net. That’s all. But I’d still take Ryan Smith in front of the net. Even though watching him take all that punishment was hard to do.

I agree with every point in this excerpt from the Edmonton Journal.

Milan Lucic & 6 other Edmonton Oilers who must pick it up pronto for team to start winning.

McLellan has finally taken a bold strategic move in breaking up McDavid and Draisaitl, but there are a number of players who need to pick it up if Edmonton has any hope of turning things around at this point. Here are seven players in particular who must step up:

1)Cam Talbot. Last year Talbot’s save percentage was .919. This year it’s .903. The few extra goals he’s let in, particularly the weak ones early in the game, have been a major issue.

2)Eric Gryba. His puck-moving is just plain bad right now and even in a third-pairing role he’s leaking scoring chances against at the defensive end. Likely time for a stint in the AHL or at least the pressbox. The team needs to pick up another third-pairing d-man. Indeed, this need has been around for many months now.

3)Milan Lucic. Needs to raise his intensity and his focus. Not close to getting the job done at even strength. Has been lazy on a few backchecks that have resulted in goals against. Far too often the play dies on his stick in the offensive end. If he can’t find chemistry with Leon Draisaitl on the second line, he should see his minutes limited.

4)Oscar Klefbom. In 2015-16 when Mark Fayne was so leaky on defence he got sent to the minors, he made 96 major mistakes on Grade A scoring chances against in 1007 even strength minutes, 1.4 per game. This year Klefbom has made 33 such mistakes in 340 even strength minutes, 1.5 per game. Ouch! Klefbom is a far, far, far superior puckmover to Fayne, so he’s in no danger of being sent to the AHL, but his gaffes on defence are a major reason the Oilers have struggled. He likely needs time in a third-pairing role to get his game back to where it was at the end of 2017.

5)Mark Letestu. The coach trusts him with all kinds of special teams playing time, but he’s given up too many cross-seam passes on the penalty kill and has yet to find his range as a shooter on the power play. At even strength he’s a mediocre fourth line centre. On a team that needs more speed, he’s an obvious candidate to sit out.

6)Ryan Strome. He’s been OK on defence but has yet to find offensive chemistry with any other forward. Needs to get his feet moving and take the body to involve himself more in games.

7)Kris Russell. He’s been barely adequate, so much so that his coach has bumped him down to a third pairing role, which doesn’t align with his new $4 million per contract. His lack of aggression in moving the puck is limiting him greatly.

So, essentially, third and fourth liners, with the exception of Talbot and Klefbom, need to start playing, mid-career, like second and third liners? Anyone else see any possible issues there....

If the Oilers are relying on guys like Gryba, Lucic, Letestu, Strome, and Russel to win games, its going to be a long, long season.

I don't know, Lucic is a 2nd liner, Lucic/Letetstu/ 1st powerplay unit, Strome/Russel 2nd powerplay unit. Anyone stepping up on this team will help.

Talbot gives up 2 goals on 3 shots and gets yanked....that's got all the makings of a thrashing if they don't start showing some heart!

Anyone know a good cardiologist? Maybe he can surgically implant some heart, as this team is collectively showing none at all this season.

So a SA% of 0.333%, is this dissimilar to baseball and that's bad?

Yay, Larsen has a goal and two assists tonight, for the Blues. What a bum.

How are they going to break the news to the Stanley Cup parade marshals that they MAY not be needed this year? Conversely, what kind of celebration will they plan for yet another first overall draft pick?
