Default Is this what you call a Gill Net? (cold lake AB)

Footage from cold lake alberta. I didnt know netting was done during the winter. Interesting how its done.

Yes, that is what they are doing. The man who owns the white suv is an elder from the cold lake First Nations band and is also a pretty decent fellow.

i had an interest on how things are done.

I've done netting catch/cooks before (not in canada)

Never knew it was possible at this time.

Basically limited to a FN activity for game fish in Alberta

It’s definitely interesting how it’s done through the ice. I have only seen the set up and take down of gill nets for salmon on the coast

Not a big fan of it from a conservation stand point but still an interesting process

That net has been in since Sunday, seen them put it in. It's a real heavy duty one at that.

I just asked that when they change locations that they mark the holes as they are rather large...last year I got a little pizzed as they left the holes unmarked and the temps were not cold enough to freeze solid...throw in the light snow skiff we had and it turns into a really dangerous situation for all that are on the ice...if you are legal to do it then do it responsible...a lot more people on the ice than just the gill netters.
