To respond,
I understand the hearing thing i already have another rifle with one on it, was done in ontario a number of years ago.(not sure of brand. not that effective though). the rifle is a remmy 700 XCR in 338 Ultra mag. love gun and caliber i have shot it but (it is just a little too light) recoil doesnt bother me but getting smacked by a scope does so... again anybody know someone who does good break work. i was thinking a Holland break but i dont know if they ship here or if you can even find them here. i am just asking for a point in the right direction with some helpful hints if possible.

Then you obviously need to mount your scope differently,or try a different scope.

Scope wouldnt be a problem usually but i have to stand a little closer to the rifle. i got short arms. the 13+" LOP sucks. i wish all rifles had the same buts as our new C7's. Instantly adjustable to short, normal, and tall. It does kick a little bit more because of the weight of the rifle i think. it doesnt hit me but my eyebrow hair is thinking of getting a divorce because its the only buffer right now.lol

One thing to consider when braking your XCR is the nickel coating is gonna be super hard to match....have you considered adding a bit of weight inside the stock or anything like that? I have an XCR in .375RUM and I bought a bushnell elite 4200 with a lower magnification and that made the eye relief factor pretty decent about 6inches or so from the scope.....I shoot it lots and it has yet to even get close. And my .375RUM likely has more than double the recoil.....just check out different scopes available the length of pull scope issue your having sounds more like needing to get to close to a too high of magnification scope or a scope with poor eye relief. The biggest issue with muzzle brakes is the fact nobody will want to hunt with you and the animals for about 5miles around will be running because it will basically be like shooting a .338 NUCLEAR WEAPON it will be sooooo loud. Just something to think about....i thought brake for mine too but instead just did some SERIOUS scope shopping.
Good luck

found a muzzle break don't make that much diff in sound. try lock and load hes OK but takes forever to do anything. K.S is OK to if the older guy does the work. only place Ive heard was really good was a guy down south by lethbridge i think it was.

Thanx guys,
thats a good couple of leads. as a side note the scope is a burris ballistic plex 3.5-10 x 42(i think) it has lots of eye relief but i was thinking of just taming the recoil without changing the weight too much. i will check out the leads and keep people updated. thanx again.
