Calling coyotes in this warm December weather
Hi folks curious to hear opinions from experience, on calling coyotes in the warm weather we’re having most of my best days calling have been colder days -15 or colder curious what luck you guys have had on a typical day like we’re having say 4 degrees,
just early AM and evenings when warmer?
Any luck calling mid day when warmer?

I’ve been doing ok. Haven’t seen any sort of real difference in responses throughout the day but thinking about it, I’d wager most of the responses have been between 11:00-2:00. Never a rule though. These stiffer winds are making for more work it seems. Normally I’ll move a mile or more before I do another set but have been moving into the wind just a half mile a few times. No response on the first set but 800 yards into the wind and I’ll have a response. Coyote vocals have been producing more than the distress for me.

Roger that, that’s interesting I think I’ll switch up tactics and hug the tree lines more so, going to assume warmer weather it’s easier hunting for the coyotes themselves, my time hunting them I’ve learned that colder weather they’re more hungry which makes them more stupid kinda like a rutting buck

Oh for sure. When they have empty bellies it can be downright magical on a chilly day. Responses to the distress have been fairly measured in their approaches but they’ve been steam rolling on the coyote vocals. I’m happy with how it’s been. Do some damage on coyote vocals now, switch up to the distress stuff when and if the mecury plummets and should have another good round of coyote vocal responses again come their rut.
A buddy sent me a picture from Canadian Whitetail of four coyotes tearing into a WT buck. I’ve no problem helping out the recovering bucks at this time of year.

What vocals are you finding woks best. Are you sticking to one call or mixing it up. Are they still coming to rabbit distress call.

What is working best. Female howl, pair howl or male and female challenge.

Only had time for 2 quick stands today. Female coyote howl got 2 back to back on first stand then had one hang up across a coulee, switched to gray fox distress, that brought him in.
Like already said, coyote vocals have been doing the trick lately in this area anyhow.
Need to find out how to bring in the big ones though...

I've found warm weather to be tough calling. I believe they just find other food sources that easier to get at cause it may be partially thawed. A cold snap definitely is better.

Coyotes
They are definitely calling better in these cooler temperatures... after deer season it didn't seem like anything was moving, every coyote in the country had been shot at.
Cool Crisp mornings/ days with little wind are my favourite. Although foggy conditions have proven themselves to me time and time again.

Best day ever calling was a cool day and SUPER foggy! Viz was about 60 yards. Called in 21, killed 15. Best part was not having to find a spot to hide the truck.
Just started noticing north winds produce better luck than south winds.
Not sure why.
Extreame cold/ calm seems best. Sucks at -20 35 below fh though.
