Default Tikka T3 Magazine Problem

I have a Tikka 223 varmint and the mag does not feed reliably. It takes 5 rounds but often the 2nd or 3rd round become slightly pushed forward by the round above it being chambered. Then when the bolt comes all the way back and you go to chamber the next round it slides over top the slightly forward round. Has anyone else experienced this or something similar?

Also while we are on the topic of tikka mags, are there options in Canada for mag upgrades? Something that would allow longer COAL? Perhaps somehow modify the factory mag?

Thanks for any insight on these issues.

The Waters magazines are aluminum, and feed much more reliably, but they are expensive.

The Waters magazines are available online. They are made in Australia.

I had the same problem with an aftermarket magazine from Mountain Tactical. I took a little tension out of the spring and it worked fine.

I have all three above mentioned 223 magazines and the new generation Mountain Tactical are my favourite (the first generation sucked). Modifying the existing one will create a headache and if you are not shooting the heavies I’d call stoeger for a factory replacement.

I was in contact with stoeger and because the rifle is out of warranty they were noncommittal on what they would be willing to do. He did say I could sent it to them. Perhaps I will and see if they will do anything. I saw the mountain tactical mag online but they are out of stock and unsure when they will make more.

Thanks for the info so far guys.

There are also multiple generations of the Waters magazines, the recent versions, are improved, and work flawlessly.

I ordered direct, and it took a couple of weeks. No issues with customs.

I have the exact same rifle with 3 factory mags. Never had an issue with any of them. If you want to try them out in your rifle to be certain its a mag issue let me know. I am in Calgary also.

I had 2 of the factory mags wear out on me. And that’s what they did when they were worn out is they wouldn’t feed reliably. What happens is the lips that hold the cartridge in the mag wear and the bullet end of the cartridge ends up tilting up a lot higher than it should. Which makes the other end tilt down so it won’t contact the bolt anymore.

I bought one from waters in Aus and it works flawlessly. About 2 weeks from when you send him the money it lands here, no border hassles either. I got the 9 shot version, and it’s got all kinds of room for you to play with your coal too. Mines a 204R which I believe is the same mag as your 223.

I bought an aluminum 10 round from Red Star or something like that in Calgary. The box is just labelled ‘T3 mag’. I guess that’s the company.

It sounds like this is the mag to get. Thanks for the review.

More details please. I dont see it on their website. You went into a store or mail ordered? How does the mag perform? Seat bullets longer?

I had .223 on the brain after reading this thread and ordered a .223 mag for my 22-250 from Mountain Tactical. I now have a .223 mag for sale at a good price if anyone still needs one.

I've had my Tikka T3 magazine jam on me several times.
Once with a large black bear approaching.
Never again will I buy an aftermarket magazine.

That's not good! Have you had the factory mag jam? Or just a aftermarket?

My tikka 5 round 223 mag doesn’t work well it jams up. The 3 round works ok. I looked at waters sight they have a magazine for 6br so you could have a t3 repeater in 6br that would be cool
