Just wondering if anyone has been out ther recently and if there was a big winter kill? Or is the fishing good now?

Pretty sure that one winterkills a bit after New Year's each winter. Not sure if it's been restocked yet this spring.

Last year that pond was restocked at the end of May. I think that they'll restock at the same time this spring too. For me, it's not worth catching 6" rainbows right after restocking. But they take chironomids very readily regardless of their size!

Yeah after new years they were swimming right under the ice with all the other remaining swimming life in the pond. This is usually indicative of a pending winterkill. I agree doesn't usually last much after new years. Too bad the pond wasn't deeper or aerated... she'd put out some seriously fat bows in a couple of years! I wish the Alberta Conservation Association would start to aerate this pond too.

What do you guys use for bait at the pond?

Worms? Power bait?

Try small Grey Mayflies with a float bobber and 6 ft of 2-4 lb. mono. A fly technique but sometimes works.

I had one try to take my fluorescent orange strike indicator today, so try some orange power bait. Before I became a fly guy I had luck with small red worm synthetic bait .
If you do get adventurous prince nymphs were working well today. Buy a weighted bobber and tie one on.
