Default Gifted a 30-30... Trying to evaluate approximate value

Hey guys!

I was fortunate enough to be gifted a Winchester 30-30 from a good friend that was his grandfathers as he is not a gun guy and he knew I would appreciate it and keep it, but never-the-less I would like to try and establish an approximate value on it thinking in terms of insurance replacement etc if something was to happen in the future.

It is a Klondike Commemorative and on the side plates one side says "The Great Gold Strike 1896" and the other side plate says "Bonanza*Eldorado*Hunker Creek

The stock has some marks and you can tell it was not handled the best as such. The bluing seems really good. Needs a solid clean all around. Pics are not great but maybe a decent idea? Any info would be appreciated!

in the last year in Canada, new unfired in the box have gone as high as $1500. Those that have been used and fired are going for $700-1200. Hope this helps.
Info from Icollector.

From the pictures that is a shooter grade rifle. The freckling on the receiver means it will never be a display grade again. Those were produced in 1975 and the good news is, shooter grade Winchester levers are worth almost as much as the display models, because the new models have gone up so much in price. A new 30-30 carbine is going for $2,000 or more, the deluxe sporters are $2,800. Many of those display model are actually VERY accurate. Have shot a couple Alberta Models in 38-55 that would easily do 2" a 100 with open sites.

https://store.prophetriver.com/lever-action/

There was a display grade on for sale for 1,900, and it sold.

One listed for sale for 2,400

There is one up on an auction site currently

A bunch on Town Post.

Thanks for that Dean! I did figure this one to be a shooter for sure and bonus he gave me 4 boxes of factory ammo too so I will be giving it a go. I don't think his grandpa ever had it for display purposes and did use it once in a while.

Default That's a Beauty

Use it, and enjoy it, the fact it was gifted to you from a friend and it belong to his grandfather makes it invaluable.

Exactly

Imagine how that grandpa felt when he took that shiny rifle home in the box. Use it like he did.

Nice to get a rifle that you can just take hunting and not worry about a few 'character' marks.
