I also got a peak rotary vise, an orvis chest pack, a leather belt that one of my buddies made and hand dyed, and a couple tshirts! Couldn't be happier to spend it with family. Happy holidays!

Rio Indicator would be a good line. You can use it for nymphing, huckin streamers, or dries. Helps a lot in low vis when them pesky tiny flies aren't visible. I'm after one myself here, have just watched a buddy fish this line with great success in not missing a lot of hits!

I agree! I know several people, including myself, that love the indicator line. Its a great line for just about everything. As long as you dont need a delicate presentation, it's perfect

Yes I do like the rio gold.Have a 3 & 5 wt.Really like them both, just thought maybe the indicator line would handle heavy nymph rigs and streamers a little better.tks for suggestion.

My older brother was in England recently and got me a Richard Wheatley hand made aluminum fly box with some flies. It was one of my favorite gifts this year.

Thumbs up

Beside some other gifts, I got a Fishin' Hole gift card & some cash. Went to the Hole's boxing day sale & got some shiny new Simms waders & boots. Not for me, though- for my wife. Gonna send her for fly fishing lessons & share some time on the water with her this year. Best gift I could ask for!

Who did you send that dead bloated badger to for a Christmas present?

If it was me, I has not arrived yet.

Congrats,beauty of a rod,I have the 10' 8wt.Would be helpful if you stated it's intended use,species etc.
Rio Indicator....seriously??Please say it isn't so!!
What a WASTE of a graceful cannon to even consider lobbing bobbers with.....there otta be a law against such blasphemy!
......I think I just threw up in my mouth a lil....

Tons of info on the worldwide web re:2handed rods, switch,Spey, hundreds of hours of free vids on U-tube to keep you entertained and confuse you even further, lol.
As for websites....SpeyPages is considered by many as THE source for all things Spey, and a whole new world of techy jargon you won't understand right away to confuse you even more,lol....but most members are only too willing to doll out free advice...and more confusion.
Hard to recommend a line without knowing a few details,ie;rod make/model,length etc....then consider how you intend to use it/casting style,Skagit or Scandi flavor, will you use it singlehanded/overhead(probly not often if at all),heads or full length lines, then there's the "relatively" new dedicated switch rod heads which are shorter than typically similar Spey heads...ie;Airflo Skagit Switch,Rio SwitchChucker etc...orrrrrr...you can go old school and simply overline it by 2wts with a line you might already own,ie;DT8/WF8 etc....or if hucking nymphs under bobbers is your thing, something like an Airflo Speydicator line.....o'course your also gonna need a selection of tips and/or polyleaders, matched to your rod weight and casting style/line choice(tips for Skagit/polys for Scandi etc).....confused yet,lol....welcome to the world of 2H addiction, haha.
As for reels...you'll probly want to upsize your recommended reel size by about 2wts generally,ie;a 7/8wt reel for a 6wt switch.

Honestly, your best bet is gonna be to pop into FishTales and get them to set you up proper from the get-go,then either sign-up for some lessons or get out with an experienced 2H caster before you teach yourself bad habits.

.....and you probly thought this 2H game was gonna be cheap and easy, baaaaaahhhaaahahahahaaa.
Actually,it's nothing to be intimidated by,it's just a lot of new terms and techniques, tackle and gear that like any flyfishing outfit needs to be matched up to compliment itself. In the simplest terms,2H/Spey is really nothing more then an exaggerated roll cast. Before you know it,you won't even care about catching fish, but you'll be standing knee deep in the Bow with an ear to ear grin when you're bombing streamers to the far bank with 100'+ casts that snap your shooting line tight to your reel and even pull out a bit of drag begging for more....enjoy!

Thanks grinr,I went to fish tales on the 27 and got all set up from a gentleman there.I never caught his name but the service was exceptional I have zero complaints about it best service ever at a outdoor store. The expense to get started is huge by all means.I got set up to do nymphing and also got set up for streamer fishing with sink tip and that was pushing 350 with a reel and I went cheap.Im going to look into the rio switch chucker line here shortly I think that's the way I should have went it seems to be the best all around line without adding all the different tips and lines and I read it has the running line built in.Thanks for all your tips if you see a guy who looks like he got hog tied in the river it's probely me come cut loose lol

LOL...will do,I always keep a knife handy.
No argument here re:FishTales.....they'll treat you right!Guessing it was likely Curtis,he's kinda the resident Spey guru, but the entire staff is great in my experience.
