Default 2014 whitetail summary

I started the season pretty early, scouting in the begin of august. I watched over a known bachelor group with some potential. It wasnt long before i had the pattern and a target i called the firebuck.

Along in the group is a younger 5x5 called Prince, with his g4 right side just developing. At the start of the season sept 15 and on, he walked past me on 7 occasions (mornins/evenings) at 18 yrds. It wasnt hard to pass him up considering my target buck was so close. Prince would gross about 150 now, but the 2015 season Im hoping he will explode.

My target buck was bedding on posted land yet feeding on the land I had permission on. This was delaying his arrival to my stand until after dark, as he was the last of the bucks to move past my stand. mornings and evening hunts were flying by with no avail. just the temptation of prince trotting past me in good light. I had no choice but abort my row of bales and move to my second stand about a 1/2 mile away, the season was short and getting shorter!

I decided to focus on an old boy 5x5 i called 'chocolate'. He was coming in like clockwork and seemed a sure bet. Just needed to wait for rifle season to open again before i could bowhunt, due to the silly 6 week break we had mid-season. Nov20th rifle season was now open. I waited 2 days for the right wind, and entered the ground blind with my mrs. @3pm. At 4:15 the chocolate buck vaporized into view and stood facing us, head on, for 12 mins. finally, he turned. At 21 yrds I hit him a bit high and a bit back, if you're a perfectionist, but the shot was very effective. He made it 65 yrds.

He scored 141 6/8 gross, 133 net with a broken g4 he busted off a few days before I nabbed him. By no means a monster, but, a mature buck is what i wanted. I made a plaque from cedar and mounted him myself.
