Default Good trapline gun

Looking to upgrade the .22lr since I've been seeing lots of wolves running around while on the line, but unsure of what to get as I would like to use the same rifle for fox and lynx when seen running around and don't want to carry multiple guns on the sled anyone have any opinions or a calibre that they carry?

223 is great on cyotes and wolves but unless you are head shooting lynx they will make a big mess i shot two with mine and will never shoot another lynx with a 223head shot leaves you with half a head

use the money that you'll spend upgrading on more wolf traps/snares. just a thought.

22 mag is good for fox beavers probably lynx. (Lynx Not sure) but it is light for yote and wolf unless you brain them don't even try. Unless you want a dispatch gun then 22lr is great. My friend runs a 22 K hornet that works pretty good for yotes and doesn't smash the hide. He uses it on stand calling yotes. Good 100yard gun.

I loaded a bunch of .223 ammo for a guy a few years back, very light stuff for things in snares and for rabbits, and some varmint bullets fore the longer ranges.
He just loves it and will never get another rifle he told me!
The only caveat is if you are shooting squirrels in the eye, a 22 is better then for sure as far as cost goes.

Did you use a different bullet for each application?

Yup, he just keeps the lighter finishing loads separate.
All his varmints get shot wit Speer TNT's and Varget, right up top wolves, with no issue.

If I reloaded I would make up some good light 223 rounds for the line!
