Default Bullet suggestions for 1 in 11 twist plz.

Hey all,
I love 308''s and recently got a Sako with 1 in 11 twist and looking for any recommendations for bullets or factory ammo that you've had good consistant accuracy experiences with.....it has to be a hunting round. Thanks in advance.

I like 165 grain accubonds. They have a good balance between penetration and speed.

For 308 win. 1:11 twist will handle up to about 200 grains depending on the style of bullet.

Depending on your style of hunting, where you are hunting, and what you are hunting will determine what you look for in bullets and loads.

Are you going to be keeping distance pretty short or will you be using a rangefinder type distances? Are you using a standard crosshair optic, a ballistic holdover scope reticle or tactical turrets for dialing in range at all?

I have tried a couple 150 grain bullets and struggled with consistency. ..best so far was the 150 grain accubond and was considering 165 grain. I hunt around Rocky mtn house....clearings/cutbacks, easements, etc with rangefinder and would like tight grouping out to maybe 3-400 yards max (beyond that will be 7mm) for deer mostly with a 4-16×44 viper pst. Thanks

Ah cool. Well with a rangefinder and tactical turrets you really arent limited into any specific ballistic profile to fit into a special reticle drop lines. If it is just deer and nothing bigger you will be able to use just about any legal hunting bullet too. Soft points, ballistic points, super high BC thin jacket bullets. They are all going to do the job on a deer. Your bullet weight and velocity are going to determine the amount of explosive fragments and shockwave damage vs penetration. A heavy long slow bullet wont fragment or shockwave as much but will penetrate deep. A light short bullet travelling fast will open up and split into lots of peices and have lots of tissue damage but will lose its momentum faster and might not penetrate as much as your looking for. I like 165 accubonds as they are the middle ground. Light enough to have medium speed and bonded to hold together a bit better for getting deeper penetration. Or there is the option of complete copper bullets which can go very fast and give lots of wound channel shockwave damage, but they dont fragment and so they also penetrate well.

This guys video is pretty interesting comparison.

Thanks again. Yeah I'm keeping it simple, love accubonds, and mainly looking to see if anyone has had better accuracy and consistency experiences with different quality hunting bullets (type, weight, etc) out of a 1 in 11 barrel. Bang for the dollar I've had good luck with SST''s. ....maybe I'll try 165 grain Accubonds😊.

Berger has a good tool for that
http://www.bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/
And if you need the length of your bullets this little guy helps
http://www.jbmballistics.com/ballist.../lengths.shtml
And then when after you do some load development you can make a table to refer to for drop
http://www.hornady.com/ballistics-re...ics-calculator
Hope this helps you out

You'll be able to stabilize 190gr. bullets with a 1 in 11 twist.

You'll most likely find satisfaction when running bullets weighing 165gr. to 180gr.
