Default Sage Rod

Hey was wondering which rod would be the best. I fish mostly trout, and like to fish dries and steamers. Looking at the Sage 3wt 7'foot Approach and the Sage 3wt 7'foot Response. Wondering which one would be good for dries and steamers?
Thanks

I fish a 4 wt sage flight in 9 ft. I'm no pro, but tossing any size streamer on a 7 ft 3 wt is going to be tough if there is any wind. In my opinion, and this is only my opinion the rod you describe will only be suitable for smaller streams and rivers and calm days on pothole lakes. I feel my casting is good to average and I have trouble on days with wind throwing wooly bugger, or similar leech patterns in a size 8, bigger is a short cast only. I noticed you were going to use a 7 wt reel, I suggest an ultralight, and small arbour or the bulk and weight will be awkward. I use a 4/5 large arbour hardy ultralight, and it feels big. I also find I hit the reel often fishing local stocked trout if they are 12" and up on such a light rod, especially in current. I usually fish barbless, so I play them a lot. Hope that was usefull

I'm no pro but I've never thought of a little 3wt as a good streamer rod.

OK OK good for tiny little streamers in situations with no wind or no current.

If you're a proficient caster, 3wt can handle conehead/lightly weighted streamers to about a size 2-4, really depends on the stick.

Its when you recognize your casting is sloppy, and then proceed to tie on an articulated lead eyes 4" streamer... is when you're pushing the boundaries.

However it can be done, and i've done it, and will continue to do so regularly.

It's hard to pick a rod that'd be best for both streamers AND dries, but I'd go with a 4wt Sage One if you're bent on a getting a sage.

in a streamer rod I like a longer, faster rod for line control (I swing streamers) but for dries I like a slower rod, such as my 6' 3wt greys, but then again most of my dry fly fishing involves throwing a fly less than 20 feet to a very precise target.

If you fish mostly dries, try out a sage circa.

Default perfect rod?

Many rod manufacturers say the 5wt is the best all round rod. It can handle both sides of the spectrum. 8 1/2 ft is good. 9 ft for larger streams.
