Anyone else experience this big problem with Fish Tales Fly Shop?
I have been in there a number of times recently as well I am signed up with them to go fishing down in Cuba.
Every time I go in there they bend over backwards to help me out. I get exceptional service and help answering all my questions. From flies and fly tying equipment to help sending in rods for warranty repairs to reel servicing to clothing and equipment purchases. Regardless what my needs or questions are the staff their are extremely keen to help you out.
This creates a huge problem because you start to expect the same level of service elsewhere. It is impossible to find. What ever happened to this quality service elsewhere.
I certainly appreciate it and will keep going back. Their orientation session for our Cuba trip was helpful. I will do a write up on the trip when I get back.

I have to agree with you on that one, I just discovered the place about 2 months ago. The guys there are fantastic, wish I knew about it earlier!

Thank God it's so far from my house, otherwise I may as well just have my paychecks direct deposit to Fish Tales

Fish tales is top in Calgary. Gotta love the variety of hooks, beads and materials, rod building, books...

I called them up a couple weeks ago, for the first time. They were great. Rounded up some big pike flies for me, tippet, mailed it to my door in record time. Took the time to ask where I fish, how and so on to get me the right stuff the first time. Excellent.

Great shop, for sure! I'm envious of your trip, would like to do one myself one day. Will be in a few years though. I hope you have a great time!

I've been to all the shops in town and keep opening my wallet at Fish Tales. I have to be honest, I started dealing with these guys when they were on McLeod and Southland. I'm sure that's over 15 years ago. The service has always been exemplary. Dave, Nancy and staff, my hats off to you.
As for your trip to Cuba Sundancefisher you need to post your post trip comments, many of us want to go, it's the feedback from others that's awesome to hear and inspiring.

Yeah, definitely a huge problem with Fish Tales...
I haven't had a chance to shop there in a while, but I've bought 2 rod and reel setups there in the past.
They threw in the line of my choice, backing, and a leader...FREE!!! The big box stores (Cab***s, Ba** P**) will never do that...
Whenever I'm in Calgary, I always make the time to open my wallet at Fish Tales. They will always get my business. The people working there make customers a priority, and will bend over backwards to help any way they can.
Hope they're around for a long time!

I am in Edmonton and still deal with them whenever I can, they are awesome! The only problem I have ever had they fixed right away. I had bought a Hardy Fortuna X4 from a vendor at the Calgary fly show 2(?)years ago and stopped at the store on the way home and had them put 700yds of backing on it as I was taking it to Mexico for sailfish. First fish I hooked into took about 200yds and got about 4 jumps out of it when I started to bear down on it a bit and broke the backing. I had a 20# break section built into my leader for just this reason so I assume the backing had a week spot. I wasn't smart enough to have brought a spare spool or line with me so I was done chasing anything with the fly. when I got back I called the store and they said bring it in and we will replace it, no charge! awesome.

I have a confession to make. I am like Steve. ^^^^
Most of my fly tying items come in a brown paper envelope.
From guess who?
I let Fish Tales choose my hackle for me. Now we all now know how personal hackle purchasing is to even an ordinary tier like me.

Absolutely the best ...
When I think of it , I don't think I have been in another fly shop
In Alberta . A few winters ago ,as a rookie here ,I got taken out
By a chunk of ice on the bow , tore a hole in the breatheables
I bought in BC before moving here . Went in to FT ,to see if there
Was a way to repair . They weren't happy until I was . Perfect .
The wife is going to start fly fishing ,so I know where we will
Go .... Service plus .

I'm glad to see such great reviews on this place as I am really looking forward to checking it out over breakup when I'm in Calgary, even though my wallet and wife my not like me going there....
