i ended up using coal shale when i ran out of wax dirt.worked pretty good. if your in pass, theres a couple spots you can fill buckets just off the side of the road.

a train derailed not far from my house. thats where i got mine. after they did the cleanup.

I use wax paper! Also heard of others using salt over their set!

Gordy Klassen has a good article in the December Alberta Outdoorsmen about making and using waxed sand.

Would glycerin work on foot hold traps? It's scent free and has a very low freezing point.

i found that salt was a real deer magnet.even the sidewalk salt(calcium chloride). alot of deer around here.

don't have any foot traps out right now. when i pulled the sets. was surprised how well the traps that where just bedded well, in the coal shale, fired. nothing extra.and did catch a couple with it.

had some in peatmoss. none of them worked.

with the bigger traps. it didn't take long to run out of wax dirt. i can see i'll need alot more next season.
