Default CWD ...Still waiting for results

Im looking for some info on my CWD results. We took two deer from 163 and i took one in 220 and did a voluntary submission.
Our heads were dropped off at a freezer in town at the beginning of December.
We would really like to start consuming some of our venison but to be on the safe side its still in the freezer.
I looked for a contact number to call and inquire but cannot find one. I know their supposed to E-mail us so still waiting on that.
Anyone else waiting on their results?

Yep. Nov 17th in a mandatory zone, so guessing it should be close?

November 26th, I dropped my head in the freezer at Cabelas South store in Edmonton, haven’t heard anything yet! I think they need to hire some more staff, especially if they keep opening up more mandatory submission zones.

Buddy dropped off two heads Nov 3rd and is still waiting. Starting to think the meat has a greater danger of being lost to freezer burn than to CWD.....

I dropped a WT off Nov 13 at South Edm Cabelas and still haven't heard back. Does anyone know how to follow up in case the email was lost?

Call In with the green tag number you retained when the head was dropped off. In my experience the longer the wait the higher the chance of a positive. Two of the heads from bow kills I dropped off took months and both were positive, both mature mule bucks.

Don’t forget to check your TRASH email box, for some reason some emails from AlbertaRELM end up there.

FYI : Unfortunately some of the earlier ones got buried in our freezers. Early heads went into yellow bags and we are on the lookout for them. They get priority once we find them.*

My results came back last week. Negative on my WT from 510.

I am just wondering why you would submit a WT head from 510?

In 2002 CWD was found in an elk on a northern Alberta game farm.

Aaaaand still waiting on Results ..Kind of frustrating for sure. Normally during these cold winter months we get together for sausage and jerky making day.
I submitted my Deer head from WMU 220 and will submit my heads no matter what zone they come from. This option is available to all of us. How can we know the spread if we have zones were not submitting from.

So update on our Deer.
My Mule Buck from WMU 220 = Negative
My sons Mule Buck from WMU 163 = Negative
My friend from BC Mule Buck WMU 163 = Positive.

All deer looked very healthy , Organs etc. So Alberta CO's contacted BC CO's and they came and cleaned out the deep freeze of all Mule Deer meat..

Not sure if its just me or more people posting here and social media but it sure seems like there is a lot of reports on Positive for CWD this year.

From the recent update, CWD prevalence is continuing to rise this year.
Male Mule deer average infection rate of tested animals is now 1/6...

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Surveillance Update: January 7, 2019

The 2018 to 2019 program for monitoring CWD in wild cervids is well under way. We detected our first case from the 2018 hunting seasons in early October and things took off from there.

To date we tested over 2300 heads and detected CWD in 147 deer, primarily mule deer males, as well as in one cow elk (preliminary overall prevalence, approximately 6.5%).

The great majority of infected deer came from areas in eastern and east central Alberta in primary watersheds where the disease continues to occur. However, CWD was detected in WMU 252 (north of Mundare) for the first time.
The total number of CWD cases detected in wild deer in Alberta since September 2005 is 1067.
Annually Alberta tests at least 6000 heads for CWD so testing is just getting started. Testing was suspended across the holidays but began again in early January. Heads currently being tested generally were received in the 2nd and 3rd week of November. It is estimated over 3500 more heads will be tested in this year’s program.
Note that most of the head drop-off freezers were removed in December. Any remaining freezers will be removed in early to mid-January. However, hunters can still drop off heads at any Fish and Wildlife office. For further information, see:

Why don’t we test all deer than?

Testing a handful of animals from zones that are part of a completely different watershed do not tell much
I understand piece of mind, but there is already a buffer zone included in the test area

Maybe you folks waiting for results should start harping at your elected representatives for answers.

Got my results back yesterday on my Whitetail buck I submitted Nov 22. Negative. It must have spent a few weeks in the freezer before it was picked up, email said submission date was Dec 13.

Spoke with the F&W Biologist yesterday after she phoned me back at 7pm . She stated they were just starting heads from Wainwright today and through this week . One of the comments for the wait time wasn't the lack of staffing but more so the logistics of the amount of heads at certain times and the areas and the frozen state plus the way some heads were submitted.
Hopefully i get an email for negative and not a positive phone call . I think if i were to get 2 positive i would not waste any time on the base doing a cull at my expense again.
