Default Draft Day

Not that I am complaining, but how did the Oilers end up with a D-man that was captain of his team and score 25 goals and had 87 points in 67 games last year. Why the heck didn't this kid go earlier?

Right handed stud of a d-man!!!! This is awsome! We now have a quarter back for the power play! He’s got a sledge hammer slap shot.

Cuz Arizona, Chicago, and the Rangers went a bit walkabout, and Vancouver was clueless, and took that skinny little kid from the U of Michigan. Happy dance!

Maybe because some some scouting agencies had him listed at 15?

No different than this forum, some people have to be novel.

Mckenzie's Draft Ranking is considered the Bible of rankings because it is based on a compilation of NHL scouts' opinions/rankings of players. Here is what was said of Bouchard... "Bouchard was the very clear No. 5 prospect on the Draft Lottery edition rankings, a notable cut below the Big Four but also notably ahead of the rest of the draft class, including the three other defencemen who appear locked and loaded as Top 10 picks this year."

I'd be interested in seeing who had him ranked 15. Give a link.

Bouchard is 18 looking 28. Excited to see what he can do.

First ranking I looked at:

Sporting News

The Hockey Writers had him at 8:

Hockey Writers

As for your sure fire top 5, if you paid attention to what you wrote, "Bouchard was the very clear No. 5".... he wasn't at the time of the draft. Bob ranked him outside the top 5....

TSN

Maybe you got a good player, but I don't think its exceptionally good luck that a player with an average ranking of 10, from three separate rankings, was selected 10th overall.

Who did Calgary get in the first round, second round, third round fourth round?

What have they stocked their cupboards with for depth?

Your Sporting News ranking is laughable. They have Dahlin ranked #2.

Not sure where you got your information but any of the "credible" predraft rankings had Bouchard as high as 4th and as low as 7th.

ISS - 6th

Central Scouting 4th among NA skaters

Hockey Writers - 4th

Bob McKenzie - 7th

Hockey News - 7th

Great looking prospect despite the Flamer protestations and obscure references.

Wish my Blackhawks had taken him instead of Boqvist in the 8 spot.

Default Excellent

I was worried that we would be subject to another one of Chiarelli's trades. Now fingers crossed that the coaching has improved so as to not kill this kid.

This could be a good pick for the Oilers. They need some D.

Hopefully Bouchard is back in Junior next year and then a season or two in the AHL. Rushing prospects into the NHL has not worked for the Oilers.

He could be Russell's replacement when his contract runs out.

Bouchard was one of the older kids drafted Friday and already has 3 years of major junior under his belt. He may go back to junior for the year after 9 games in the bigs, play some tournaments for Canada, but I'd bet he won't do/require much seasoning in the A.
