Thumbs up Cascade fishing adventures...STURGEON!

We left for the Chilliwack area on Sunday on a absolute fishing trip of a lifetime. Got in Monday and checked into the Coast hotel. Very nice hotel, checked the area out, tried to sleep that night but too pumped up. Had a great breakfast Tuesday morning, met our guide "Bowie" 7:45 and departed to a launch area. Got on the water, Bowie explained the safety rules, expectations etc then he opened up,the jet boat and we were off with ear to ear grins! Anchor, bait the hooks, toss the lines and then watch the lines. Talked sturgeon etc and then bam and I mean bam we were on, this beast launched itself out of the water three times, literally from hotel to fish on was 45 minutes, so a long two hour and twenty minutes we finally got this epic fish of a lifetime to the boat, a slow drag to shore, jump in the water, measurements 8'6" 38" girth estimated weight 240 ish....pics , a few struggles to hold this beauty, a kiss, a thank you and a release.
Got in the boat and my son and I were literally shaking, Bowie says you ain't seen nothing yet...that day after the first eight plus footer we caught a six footer, five footer and then another eight footer to end day one.
Bowie worked his magic.
That night at supper we started to stiffen up a bit

The next morning we went through the same motions but had to shake it out a it as we were a bit stiff. Bowie had the only day off for the month so we got the privilidge to be guided by Marc, owner/guide of Cascade Fishing Adventures.
I call him the sturgeon whisperer as he put us on 6 hook ups that day, very first one was an even eight footer but had a 40" girth was just a very thick fish which he estimated due to the mass this fished carried approx 290lbs...so off to shore we go for another wedding picture with our lovely bride
Marc educated us with his 25 plus years experience on these fish from spawning to what they do during various times of the year etc but more importantly how to fight these magnificent fish making the most of an epic battle. That day we landed five, two even eight footers, two a little over seven feet and a six footer. Marc scans them , measures length and girth to collect data which was very interesting. We got entertained by huge fights, torpedo jumps six feet out of the water, 200 yard plus runs, stag net stailmates between man and beast, just epic is all I can say. Two days nine sturgeons, great guides, great people, top notch outfit very professionally run.
Bent rods and sore arms.

Congrats on a great trip! It truly is a wonderful fishery and a trip everyone should do at least once.

Here’s another couple 8+ footers from my last trip to Mission.

That’s awesome, once you get into the 7’+ fish you get into some good battles. Did you go east or west of chilliwack? Did you make it west of the mission bridge? Laketrout fishing will never be the same now my friend. The first time you do a hook set and it feels like you just snagged the bumper of a Volkswagen, all other fishing trips will be compared to that moment. Not even halibut fishing compares imo. I’ve fished the coast from Gibson’s, Powell River, Campbell river, Port Hardy and as far north as Haida Gwaii, but my favorite trip is sturgeon on the Fraser. I’m flying up to northern Saskatchewan next week for some big Lakers, big pike, and walleye, but there’s nothing like hooking into a 300lb sturgeon.

I’ve been out for sturgeon probably a dozen times now and I’m still trying for my 10’+ I think my next trip will be in late October when the big girls are running.

Congrats on your trip, thanks for the report!

Bowie guided a client to 10 feet 9 inches and the largest one Marc got was I believe 11 feet 9 inches so I could just imagine the pulling power, saw the pics and they are massive but girth plays a huge factor too I know the one 10 foot 9 inches was almost a 40" girth which really packs the weight on. Either way these are truly epic fish, a privilidge to catch and release.

Good luck on your trip.

Tight lines!

I go with STS Guiding when I go and one time the day after I left my guide landed an 11’-9” monster. I’m not going to make it out this year, my leg is too messed up to go to battle with them thar fishes!

My biggest was 9’-3” and was super thick. That day we landed 6 between 7’-6” and 9’-3”, it was the most increadible trip to date.

My wife and oldest son brought this one in

That’s what I’m after!

I make sure I have a spare $800 every time I drive to the coast and I alway give myself an extra day in hopes I can cross paths with one like that!

Fantastic adventure, amazing the power of these prehistoric monsters...

We were blessed to haul in an 11' 6" on our trip, largest caught that year and estimated at over 1000 lbs...

Thanks for sharing.

See!!??! It’s the best fishing ever...

Now go immediately to your local lake and set the hook on a 3lb pike and watch him fly right over the boat. Lol.

He’s a pretty good guy, I went out with him and Vic when he was just starting out and acting as Vic’s first mate on Vic’s boat. My son had a blast with him knocking out salmon as we landed them on the bar.

The Fraser has to be one of, if not the top angling destinations in Canada in my opinion. This thread has me itchin to head west, lol!!!!

Marc only gets cranky when he’s dealing with stupid people. He's a top notch guy - just fished with him for 4 days recently and it couldn't have been any more enjoyable

I just spent 16 plus hours on the water with the guides Bowie and Marc, saw the other guides at the parking lot all smiles and pumped up to get going. On another note when my son and I just finished catching a sturgeon Marc had got info on his cell phone of a mechanical breakdown of another competition outfits guide so we reeled in and went to find this fella with his clients fighting a fish, main motor had issues but the kicker was working, Marc told him a bunch of things to do mechanically to trouble shoot the main motor, nothing we could do as his client was hooked up so we went back to our spot fishing, I would say about hour later he got hold of Marc again and asked for a ride so we reeled in, went to were he put his boat not were he originally launched, picked him up and took off to drop him off to get his truck and trailer, now if that's not a class act I don't know what is. I asked Marc if he knew the fella and he said heard of him but if you can help someone out that's stranded you do, that's a class act, oh yeah I believe shortly after if memory serves me right we hooked up another three sturgeon...karma!

If you don’t break 4’ in a day it is either a really bad day or your guide isn’t doing his job. We usually catch a 6+ every trip. Heck we have caught a 4+ every time self guided kayak fishing.

That's fishing, I booked two full days because we all know that when it comes to fishing there are no for sures so we increased our odds by having another 8 hrs on the water. Gotta admit though the guides bust thier humps to get you on the fish that want to bite, we were fortunate and had great guides and cooperative fish

If they would only hold still for a picture.....rodeo

We caught 9 and lost another 3. Our guide Clayton with Cascade surpassed my expectations.. which are high considering I guide as well. We got 2 that were 6', the rest were all smaller. I was just stating that we did good, but didn't do 4 8' fish good.
