Default 300 norma

Anyone shooting a 300 Norma? How do they compare velocity vs 300 win mag and 300WSM?

Lapua is making brass for the 300 Norma now. Cool cartridge but requires the big bolt face.

Wondered why Norma got themselves this "short" mag thing. Dad had got his 308 Norma Mag in '70..I'm still shooting it. Everything from mice to moose has been harvested with it. good luck on the upcoming season everyone.

The 300 and 338 Norma were designed to shoot the extremely heavy bullets for caliber. They are designed for long long range. The 308 Norma is very similar to a 300 win mag. They are built for totally different purposes

Default .300 win mag

Stolen idea by Winchester with a short bastardized neck unlike the .308 NM .Norma made guns and no ammo for about 5 years to go with it so Winchester offered both.Bad marketing on Norma's part.

I almost built a 300 Norma but I already had an action that worked for the 338 Edge so went that route just because of the cost of getting a new bolt and buying a reamer. I shot my edge to 1820 yards this morning.

I also have a 308 Norma that I shoot 210 SMKs in and shoots great to 1700 plus yards.

No, as I understand it, the idea behind the short Norma cartridges was to be able to take advantage of surplus military actions. At one time it was economical and popular to do conversions.

Default ballistic twins

The .308 NM was released in 1959 and then Winchester released the .300 Win mag in 1963. As well Whelan must have known of the existence of the 9.3x62 when the .35 Whelan version appeared.Ellwood Epps saw a wildcat .303 used by another hunter in Africa and asked for a couple brass.Mistake he returned home and "invented" the .303Epps shortly thereafter. This happens all the time.Jim Carmicheal made up a 6.5 Panther on a .308 win case showed it to Rem and out came the clone .260 Rem.
